Maiden England '88 + History Part 3 coming March 25th!

Look on Youtube harrisdevot ;)

Adrian's sentiments about the songs being too fast are even more relevant here, IMO. SIASL and SOM are waaaay too fast. It makes it even harder for Bruce to sing at that tempo too. Dunno why they didn't ease up just a little? Great video though. Havn't watched it in a while. What a setlist!!!

Yes, I know this footage. The quality is so poor, but I wonder if the DVD is better.

The DVD's I have don't look much better than Youtube I'm afraid. obviously the technology at that time does not comapare to nowadays but I treasure them because it is all we have from that tour. I'm sure you can find the SIT Paris and Sweden on ebay or if you like send me a message and I would be glad to send you some copies..both are 2 DVD sets and include backstage footage

Yup, the backstage footage from Sweden 1986 is pretty cool and interesting to see, even if nothing in particular happens, except Maiden waiting for showtime :)

Wow, great footage. Although H doesn't seem to have had a particularly good day.

I wonder if the lack of footage from that tour has given Steve a complex and is the reason why we pretty much get a live release of every tour nowadays. I have no problem with it, I enjoy them all and no one is forcing anyone to buy them.

I think they are just more aware of documenting their history and tours now than they were in the 80s. They were just riding the moment back then - not really thinking about preserving anything for the future. They didn't think of it like that back then - they were just living it. It's different now.

Here's a pro shot show from Virtual XI that could make it's way on to one of these releases.

Edit: woops forgot the ink!

There's some great pro shot footage from X-Factour as well. I think the only 90's tour that doesn't have a complete concert somewhere is Ed Huntour. Which sucks because that had a great setlist.

To get back on topic, I watched the actual show, and it's simply brilliant. I've had it before in mp3 form (from the original CD issue back in the day), and I've watched it a few times (but it was a few years ago), and I didn't remember all the details. A great moment was seeing a young Rod Smallwood, Michael Kenney, Wally Grove and others singing on Heaven Can Wait. And Bruce sounds great despite having a cold, although he had problems with the SSOASS chorus, but as Adrian said, it's due to the band playing it too fast.

Mwah, I don't find it that fast. Bruce was also (way!) too late during the spoken word, later on in that song.

If you compare it to the album version it is (way!) too fast. If it was an instrumental then fair enough but it spoils it a little when the singer can't keep up. In fairness to Adrian, he himself never misses a note. I totally understand his point though.

Some of his solos (or parts from it) come across as a bit messy. Probably he found it difficult to give a good performance when a song is faster.

Nicko made the point about Bruce in SSOASS.

I know. He's right as well.

I remember Bruce commenting on the speed of the songs on Part 2. Hallowed on LAD is another example of it affecting the vocal performance a little.

Not sure whether this has already been discussed in this thread, apologies if I have missed it....

There appears to have been a change made to Die With Your Boots On. My original VHS of Maiden England has Bruce saying "You all *fucking* die!!" during the bridge section, whereas my DVD version omits the swear word. There is plenty of swearing elsewhere on the DVD, so this change really puzzles me. Both versions that I own were purchased in New Zealand, in case that makes any difference.

Anybody else noticed this, or is my VHS version somehow a wee bit special?
