Maiden and upcoming departures

The thing is, Maiden have enough money and time to find someone who is a Nicko clone.
Money, yes, but time? Debatable, considering how relatively close to the end of their active years they are. Would it really be worth it to find such a person and spend the time getting them up to speed for one, maybe two more tours? This hypothetical person would also probably have to be British, for... reasons.

Neil Pert could hand Nicko his.... if he wanted to of course.
Completely disagree.

Both drummers have their own distinctly unique style, based largely upon the fact that they're mainly self-taught and have each played with one musically distinctive group for the majority of their careers. They're both competent, innovative, and serve their respective genres perfectly, but are nowhere near the pure technical level of the elite session guys like Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jeff Porcaro, etc.

In a practical sense, though Nicko may have some chronic arthritis/tennis elbow, Neil's joint problems are so bad that he has actually retired from playing. So, there's that too.

TBH I can't see them going on if any member is to retire; they've reached a point in their careers where there would be no point in going on since they're gonna all retire in the coming years

I think it’s pretty clear that if any one of Adrian or Janick was to quit the band carries on with 2 guitar players. If both quit or anyone else quits band is over.

Nicko is replaceable but I doubt steve or anyone else could be bothered getting anyone new in. I think these guys have been together so long now that they come across as they don’t want to have to bring anyone new into the band. This is it now and if this line up crumbles the band folds. This is it till the end.

Having said that they know that time is short and none of them are getting any younger so why they haven’t pumped out another studio album is a mystery to me. I wish they’d stop focusing on all the touring and get as much new music out as they can before they get too old and have to pack it in.

I know touring is where the money is these days but these guys are multi millionaires so they don’t need the money. They should take a leaf out of Saxons book and a new album every 2/3 years with tours in between. Don’t know why they drag their heels so much when it comes to new music. At lest they’re not Metallica on that front I suppose.

Metallica take two years to make an album and at least two years to tour the previous album. That’s why it normally takes about 5 years, they just got sidetracked this time round.

Really lol, 3 albums in 21 years is a bit slow in my book :)
The gap between St Anger and Death Magnetic shows that they could be doing one every four or five years. 2003 record released, 2004 continuation of tour throughout most of the year, 2005 two shows and apparently they didn’t start working on the next album so you may or may not want to count it, 2006 new album work starts, 2008 album release.
They did a lot of stuff in the Reload-St Anger and Death Magnetic-HTSD gaps, a few non-original releases (live projects, covers, Lou Reed), and they sort of disintegrated for most of 2001. Metallica nearly finished in it’s 20th year. It’s nice to see the two biggest metal bands about to reach roughly 40 years of serious activity.

I think those who think that Adrian is replaceable do not realize how influential is his input on the Maiden sound.
I don't think he is that important when it comes to the sound. We've got several albums without Adrian and it all sounds like Maiden to me. However, he is extremely important when it comes to the writing process. He adds creativity and details Janick and Dave don't.

Please listen to live versions of ‘80s songs played without Adrian. Most of them sound like them are lacking something. Also, don’t forget about his solos, most of them destroyed by Janick.

Later edit: Imagine just ROTAM without Adrian :)

Why the language or nationality would be obstacle to replace Bruce and Nicko? Brazilian's, for example, certainly have talent, passion and knowledge. I think it would be fantastic to hear (and see) this:

Bruce = Sergio Faga (Children of the Beast)
Nicko = Eric Claros (Children of the Beast)

Examples:

You seem to forget the accent, which in most (if not all) cases makes things sound odd, to say the least.

It sounded odd enough to have someone from North America replacing Rob Halford, I cannot imagine how bizarre it would have sounded with a non-native speaker!

Above videos don't sound odd to me...maybe few mistakes in accent, but nothing that can't be easily corrected and learned.

Those guys are awesome. They use the same equipment, they dress similarly, they sound pretty close to the original.

But this is not about a cover band, is about some a Maiden member leaving the band and be replaced. WTF are we talking about? At this moment, Maiden is too consolidated and the guys are too old for any change. When anything happens, the light will be turned off.

I agree...but then this thread has no point, and can be closed.
