Two of the match-ups were non-album tracks. Removing those matches makes it 7-2. One of those wins is substantial but the V11 tracks have been largely battered by the CLASSIC tracks. Stood well my arse.

I'm aware of that, but if you want to conduct a direct comparison between the two albums (and not for the purposes of a game) then you have to compare the songs that are on the respective albums. The results above are unequivocal: songs from the 'The Number of the Beast' is considerably more popular than 'Virtual XI', non-albums tracks artificially included for the purposes of the game or not.
 
"The Clansman", a run-of-the-mill epic with little if no vocal flow above "22 Acacia Avenue", a period-defining song with a band firing on all cylinders? I won't tell you the one for which I've voted but picture me surprised! ;)

7-4 in favour of Number of the Beast over Virtual XI.
Next up the debut versus Dance of Dance. :fencing:
 
Honestly the hardest match was the first one. Both songs are pretty equal in my book and among Maiden's weaker openers. Prowler especially stands out in a negative way just because of how strong the rest of the album is. I ended up going Wildest Dreams because it has a better chorus and guitar solo. Extremely close though.

Everything else was pretty straightforward. Sad to see Montsegur go against Phantom because I do really like that song.

Prowler completely trashes Wildest Dreams.
And the debut album trashes Dance of Death as well: 8-3. Only the title track, Paschendale and Age of Innocence (a fine track) win their battles.

Suspected as much, two albums I don't think belong near Maiden's best efforts, but with timeless classics on both.
 
Prowler vs Widest Dreams
Remember Tomorrow vs Rainmaker (both are among the best of the respective albums but Rainmaker guitar melodies and solo are better)
Running Free vs No More Lies (Running Fee is a live song, studio it's just boring)
Phantom of the Opera vs Montségur (Despite the happy chorus I love Montségur but against such a huge classic, no chance)
Burning Ambition vs Dance of Death
Transylvania vs Gates of Tomorrow (just because a choice had to be made, I don't like any of them particularly)
Strange World vs New Frontier (Strange World has always been of my favorites of their first effort...sad it has been totally forgotten)
Sanctuary vs Paschendale (so easy, the best of DOD againts one of the worst in their catalog)
Charlotte the Harlot vs Face in the Sand
Women in Uniform vs Age of Innocence
Iron Maiden vs Journeyman (same as Running Free, Iron Maiden is a live song, the studio version is so lifeless)
