Two great albums that I usually rank fairly even just outside of my top 5, and the result is pretty close too
6-5 for POM.
Where Eagles Dare vs
The Wicker Man
-I really like how busy and energetic WED is, but TWM is just amazing. The riff, the chorus, the solo and the lyrics - possibly the best Maiden opener after Aces High.
Revelations vs Ghost of the Navigator
-Another close one. The intro and build-up in Ghost is my favourite part of the song, but other than the chorus there's nothing too special about the rest of it. Revelations is awesome all the way through.
Flight of Icarus vs Brave New World
-FOI is a personal favourite of mine; the riff, verses, chorus and especially the solos come together perfectly (and no, the studio version's tempo isn't too slow!). BNW should get an honourable mention, it could easily have gotten my vote too.
Die With Your Boots On vs
Blood Brothers
-A really fun song versus one that has come to mean a lot me lately (due to the death of a family member). Gotta go with BB.
Cross Eyed Mary vs The Mercenary
-The Mercenary is dull. CEM is a fantastic cover of one of my favourite Tull-songs.
The Trooper vs Dream of Mirrors
-Really, no contest. I've always found DOM overblown and boring. The Trooper is a classic.
Still Life vs
The Fallen Angel
-This one was very close! Both pretty cool songs, though nowhere near being the best on their respective albums.
Quest for Fire vs The Nomad
-I would assume this would be a bit controversial. It has nothing to do with Beckett, but The Nomad is just... meh. A few cool melodies here and there, but that's it. QFF is another personal favourite, and honestly, ONE line about dinosaurs can't ruin the song for me - great groove and great solos.
Sun and Steel vs
Out of the Silent Planet
-The worst song on POM faces off against one of the best on BNW. No contest.
I've Got the Fire vs
The Apparition
-Strange pairing, but I understand why it has to be this way. The Apparition isn't Maiden's worst by a long shot, I actually appreciate it trying to be something different.
To Tame a Land vs The Thin Line Between Love and Hate
-TTLBLAH starts out with a great riff and really amazing chorus(es), but I think it drags on too long. TTAL, like Revelations, is fantastic all the way through.
