The "Classic Albums - The Number Of The Beast" documentary is really cool. The entire series is anyway, but for me, "British Steel" and "TNOTB" stand out. Very interesting to learn about the creation of those albums.

This is really bad. Singing the chorus to Tears of the Dragon with some wierd light head voice or something (He claims he's belting. Shittiest belting I've ever heard in that case). This guy studied with the same vocal coach Geoff Tate did. It's safe to say who was the more gifted student.
WTF?! Third time listening and he still sounds good to me! I must be the worst judge in the world of bad singing.

Well I watched that cover again. I don't like to take pot shots at random people on the internet but that guy has a long way to go. His pronunciation is bad, as a non-native speaker I know it's hard, but it's what it is. If you pronounce bad you put bad accents on words and the musical flow suffers. The verses are ok. However Bruce's "act" and the stuff he does with his hands are not for posterity, they have a singing function, he needs to raise his arms every now and then because he pushes a ton of air from his lungs. You can see this cover person does not get it. Regarding the chorus, the voice is weak, it is not powerless but whatever power it has it gets drowned in the mix. And the power (belt) is somewhat present in the low parts of the chorus but gone as he goes up in pitch.

I think he's fair game. He uses this video to try to convince people to pay him to teach them how to do this. If he were some guy in a band that puts out a bad cover just because that's what they want to do, I would maybe say I think it's bad but otherwise shut up about it.

It's more than that. If the accent is so strong in every part of the song, that's a telltale sign of a bad singer. If he actually paid attention to what Bruce does and genuinely tried to emulate it, some of that accent would be polished off automatically just because as you say the flow of the vocals demand a certain pronunciation. It wouldn't even be a conscious effort. This guy obviously doesn't give a fuck and thinks he has it figured out by himself. The result being that what he does sounds absolutely nothing like Bruce, not only in terms of voice, but more importantly in terms of technique.

The basis for his entire technique is early bridging of the headvoice and using a compressed, light headvoice as the foundation. That's what he and Geoff Tate were taught. But it's not what Bruce does and it just turns out really, really weird when you apply that to Tears of the Dragon - Especially when you don't really master the technique you're using anyway. He doesn't have a Geoff Tate calibre command, that's for sure. Not even close to Geoff Tate in 2020.

@Perun Spot on. You can see that accent development in Rafael Mendez. When he started he had it, nowadays it's pretty much gone.

Also to be fair to the guy, he isn't selling "sound like Bruce" training he's just selling himself. He may not do a good Bruce but he probably has better covers on his channel.

No, but he is actively selling "how to sound like Geoff Tate".

When did Tate go to vocal instructions? Early on, or later, so he can preserve his voice?
Early, before he was in Queensryche, under David Kyle, who taught the early bridging technique. According to Ken Tamplin, that is hard to sustain over time as a full time singer, and it's evident Geoff Tate isn't the singer he was even 15 years ago. He is still very good though.

That is true and I probably would be less nasty about this if he didn't claim he did a good job with this in the user comments.

Also two things : the like/dislike meter is disabled which is in 99% of the cases a bad sign. And that guy is bloody American, so he's a native speaker. He has a normal native speaking accent. I thought he's Spanish...
