I feel sorry for Diesel. This shambles is all his fault.
Actually, the problem lies in people like Black Wizard and Perun, who believe that “funny” can be objectively measured and that anything not up to par with the personal standards they’ve set is objectively “unfunny”. Perhaps I was a catalyst, but don’t start pinning all this shit on me. All I did was post things I thought were funny. Sue me.

I do try to support a mid tier or smaller level band by buying a physical copy of their music. I feel that gives me more value than a T Shirt, often at a similar price. A lot of these bands survive off merch.
I've done that a couple of times recently but only because I knew I'd get a chance to meet the band after their set so could get the CD signed. I do like to own CDs but can't buy much anymore due to financial constraints and my lack of CD player. Obviously I'd like to support bands by purchasing their CD instead of just using Spotify but the cost adds up with the concert ticket (which is expensive enough) and travel expenses. There's a vicious circle when it comes to the price of CDs and concert tickets though: ticket prices increased because nobody buys music, but now we can't afford to buy music because tickets cost so much.

Making it even more ridiculous is the fact that it's a thread called Funny/RANDOM/Weird Pictures in the Can I Play with Madness forum, whose definition literally is "spam, madness and general off topic stuff". There is nothing about posting memes that goes against what the thread is designed to be. It wasn't even difficult to go through or ignore the mass meme posts, the hysteria about the perceived drop-off in quality to me was downright embarrassing.

I feel sorry for Black Wizard & Perun now. This shambles is all their fault.

Right. I'm seriously pissed off right now, but I'll nevertheless make an attempt to communicate my thoughts.

I'm not trying to be the comedy police. This whole thing started out with some people posting images that were by the looks of it trying to be funny (and not just random), and I didn't get them. Not in the "I-don't-think-it's-funny" way, but in the "I-don't-understand-what's-supposed-to-be-funny" way. So I went about asking what other people thought was funny about them, not to judge the people or their sense of humour, but to understand what was behind it. This place used to be a discussion forum after all, where people actually talked. However, instead of getting my questions answered, I got sarcastic responses, more pictures I didn't understand and eventually it just defiant "who says I'm not allowed to post this"-type of responses. This sort of behaviour looks childish to me, and it doesn't help to build any sort of sympathy.
Anyway, the sort of behaviour displayed in this left me confused, and something else built up my confusion further. My gf's ten year old daughter started discovering memes recently and keeps showing me the same sort of images. I don't get them, but she thinks they're hilarious. This left me confused, because when I was ten, I didn't get the jokes of 15-18 year olds, and when I was a teenager, I thought the things that were funny to me when I was ten were the lamest thing in the world, and the same was true for my peers. Now people between 10 and 18 laugh at the same things, and I don't understand what it is they're laughing at - so I thought it was legitimate to ask about that. But instead of havjng it explained, I get the aforementioned respones. So forgive me for saying this, but things are starting to look an awful lot like kindergarten to me here.

I think the issue is, the type of humour that we find funny cannot be explained to anyone that isn't apart of it. For example the Airpods memes. How can you explain that to someone that doesn't get it? You can't, you simply have to be there, be a part of the culture to understand it. I don't understand the psychology as to why we young people find it funny, and I am sorry that you felt that way instead of getting the sensible response that you wanted, but I think that's because there really is no explanation for them

Kids these days don't really think about this, but it's a fact that whatever they post will remain online forever. One day they will look back and be utterly embarrassed by what they had posted. That thought makes me chuckle and thank cod there was no Internet in my teenage years. :D

Sure, but explaining a joke is like dissecting a frog: you understand it better, but it dies in the process.

Anyway I’m sorry if I was biting but it didn’t seem like a mere question of “what does this mean” and more like “I don’t get it, your humor sucks”.

But if you ask for a joke to be explained, you don't really want to laugh at it, you want to understand it better. The executive veto is basically a "fuck you" in this case.

I seem to remember saying I really do want it explained, actually. Maybe we can just file this under "let's not jump to conclusions" for now.

There's definitely a generational difference of opinion here. The pro-memspam brigade mostly seem to be under 21 and have probably grown up with their entire lives on Facebook and seeing memes everywhere. This forum is not Facebook or Reddit and it should not be treated as such. As far as I am aware this forum has never tolerated mindless, persistent spam - even in the "spam" subforum. I suspect that some of our younger members are used to seeing mindless spam on the internet and see it as the norm so it ends up here too. I've always regarded this forum to be a little more high brow than the rest of the internet and it's very disappointing to see memespam appear here. If I want to see meme after meme after meme then I go to 9gag and if I see one or two pictures I think Maidenfans will appreciate then I'll stick in in the FUNNY/RANDOM/WIERD Pictures thread. There's been no point lately though my posts will get lost in all the spam, often consecutive posts from the same member, each with multiple rubbish memes.

I would ask our younger members to bear in mind that they're talking to people twice their age in some cases - some of whom have children. Perhaps it's the case that the forum members who are parents get enough of random drivel and would like to have some more sophisticated discussion here while still laughing at things too? There are many platforms for memespam with entire communities who will appreciate it. This is not one of them.

The other thing to keep in mind is that on Maidenfans, you are going to be challenged. That might be explaining humour, and it might be explaining a point of view. Thinking about what you find funny is an important part of maturing. I remember being 17 and laughing at a bunch of stuff because I was told it was funny.
