I'm with you there. My mate is fanatical about them but I dont get it.

Then again I usually get witty comments at work with all my Iron Maiden tat all over my desk coupled with my Maiden wallpaper... "Uhh hey have you ever heard of Iron Maiden? *sniggering*"

Alestorm has several very fun songs. I like the production and the guitar sound. Again, not in the same league as RATM...Morello is a quite influential guitarist, you know?

Alestorm may not have many (?or any) revolutionary musical ideas but they do have a unique band identity, which is ultimately what will keep their fans with them in the face of competition from similar bands. They may be fairly derivative, but they are quite philosophical about this and they are good at what they do. Their songs are fun. Their concerts are fun. I like them a lot.

I have absolutely no opinion either way about RATM.
