Yes, I studied that area in that period. There was some doubt about how much was actively promoted by the Cathar religious elite, and to what extent, and how much was blown out of proportion by the inquisition. They were trying to demonstrate that these beliefs and associated practices were 'wrong' on every level, and went out looking for and recording certain practices, including adultery, to demonstrate beyond all doubt to anyone interested that there was nothing commendable whatsoever about this new form of religion. There was more at stake than religion, too. The social system in this region wasn't in line with what you might call the medieval ideal, and there may have been a distinct culture/nationality emerging that was at odds with the traditional established kingdoms.

Also, as we've already opened the theme of historical heresies, there was this funny sect called Circumcellions who believed that the primary and, in fact, only virtue of Christian life was martyrdom. So they armed with clubs and wandered throughout the bush, taunting travelling knights etc. and beating them with these clubs yelling "Laudate Deum!" until someone helped them achieve martyrdom. They were almost completely gone by the end of the 4th century, for reasons that seem obvious.

I'm really not making this up.

Yeah, I know all that, but then again, put my way, it makes for a better joke about a shitty policy, donnit? :D

Disclaimer: However, I chose St. Dominic as one of my patron saints (which shows which side I'd probably believe more), who on the other hand only fought Cathars with arguments and logic and even allegedly helped some of them during the war. I also don't condone the Albigensian Crusade, just as pretty much no crusade, because I don't think it fulfilled the necessary conditions for a just war and it's been perceived as a mistake even by the Church (on the other hand, nothing in history was as crystal as hindsight makes it seem, so I'm also careful in my judgement).

3D printer update

We worked on it some more yesterday, but we were a bit distracted by the kickoff of the college football season

It is mostly all put together, took forever to check the voltage for all the connections, but that is all correct now and none of the circuit boards blew up on us, so that is a plus.

For the 3rd part of the trilogy next weekend, we just need to attach the LCD display and the spooling system, make the 7 zillion wires look somewhat neat (or at least make sure they are out of the way/cut them shorter), flash the firmware and in theory we should be able to print something.

I am surprised the kit did not come with a cauldron to make the metal rods, I think those were the only parts that did not require some assembly.

The Return of the 3D Printer.

Reminds me of one of my old favourites.
