Let's try and get 1,000,000 replies to this post

Joey Votto, Penny Oleksiak, Christine Sinclair, Andre Degrasse, Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, Andrew Wiggens, Milos Raonic, Carey Price - currently among Canada's best athletes.

Heard of any of them?

Roll it back a bit and add recently retiredSteve Nash, Simon Whitfield, Goerges St. Pierre, Hayley Wickenheiser, or declining Mike Weir, Eugenie Bouchard - how about those names?
I know who Eugenie Bouchard is.... I know who Milos Raonic is too, but not the rest of them.

Hey, I don't watch it, it was shown in the gym! As I said, trying to hit the same little patch over and over again seems pointless to me.
You can't win if you only hit that patch. You need to finish with a patch on the edge of the board. All kinds of combinations need to be calculated and hit to win a leg, depending on how it goes. It takes skill to do this well. Concentration and mathematics. I don't watch it anymore either, but I did so for a while starting in the mid nineties when Barney took on Britain.

I just learned that Slash is British and from the same town as Lemmy.

I'm... Stoked.

Who are your 10 notable athletes? David Beckham, Andy Murray, Steven Gerrard, Lewis Hamilton, John Terry, Phil "The Power" Taylor, Gareth Bale, Joey Barton, Paul Gascoigne and Ched Evans?

Steve Redgrave, Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins, Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, Mo Farah, Ben Ainslie, Andy Murray, Jessica Ennis and David Beckham. Would've included Daley Thompson instead of Becks if I wasn't going for a familiar face.

Andrew Wiggens

Haven't heard of him. I have heard of Andrew Wiggins who plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves and scored 31 points against the Milwaukee Bucks last night, though. :p

Redgrave, Hoy, Wiggins, Farah, Ainslie and Ennis should be recognizable from the Olympics, but I think you said Turkish TV doesn't show any non-Turks other than Usain Bolt. If they pay attention to the Tour de France they should know Wiggins.

I couldn't name ten Turkish athletes though. Uhm... Rustu Recber, Colin Kazim-Richards, Hakan Sukur, Emre Can(?), Arda Turan and Mesut Ozil. :p

This post will probably anger some (good! I like doing that :devil2:).

So many people online are "surprised" by the deaths this year of Carrie Fisher, David Bowie, Lemmy (died in December last year), etc. I am not surprised people who were life long smokers and/or drug abusers died. I am surprised they lasted as long as they did. The body can only take so much.

Still...yes it is too bad they are gone. Not only for their family, but obviously as fans who will miss out on the future work they could have done.

That's more than enough, we aren't exactly a powerhouse athletically. :D

Emre Can is Turkish btw yes. You could name İlkay Gündoğan as well. Maybe Tugay Kerimoğlu, played for Blackburn for a long time. (Played for Rangers too IIRC)

There's Nadir Cifti too, who was at Dundee United a couple of seasons ago. Then Celtic bought him for no reason and he's barely played for them.

I thought the same when Heath Ledger and the guys from Slipknot and Avenged Sevenfold died of drug overdoses. They became idolized way more than they had been while alive and for some reason became legends because of their deaths. Slipknot and Avenged Sevenfold shamelessly used their friends' deaths as a promotional tool too.

10 athletes .. easy ... Kris Bryant, Jon Lester, Anthony Rizzo, Jake Arrieta. Kyle Schwarber, Javier Baez, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Artemi Panarin, Duncan Keith ... I could go on :)
