Anyone with experience in dealing with hornets, please respond. An hour ago I saw a mid-size european flavour of this pesky monster, about 2.5/1 inch in length sniffing around my window glass. I decide to leave it there, after some minutes it flies straight away from my house. only to come back after a few mins. It flew straight into an internal air conditioning unit that's adjacent to the location where it roamed previously (the window). While I'm wondering what do do, it flies out of A/C again into the wild. I decide to close windows. I did that about 45 mins ago, and it's constantly trying to get back in. This is a residential area, lots of other people's windows and nice flowers around, why this shitty bug won't leave me alone? Do I have a hornet's nest in my A/C? I started living here a month so I don't know shit about this apartment but A/C in question is a small auxilliary one, seldom used by previous owners.

I'd be shocked if you have a hornet's nest in your AC, but you might have one in the housing or in the area nearby. Most likely it caught scent of something it likes and wants to get back in. They're stubborn little buggers, mind you, so if they were trying to get in through the AC, they might be following a scent as well.

Keep an eye out for multiples. If there's a nest you won't see just one.

Thx guys. How long does it take for them to build up a nest? Could it leave some larva or whatever behind when it entered AC for just a minute?
I don't think there's a nest anywhere in my apartment. I've been working around stuff (adapting) for last two months here and it's mostly still empty.

And it's still trying to get in. I hate AC cooled spaces, I just can't stand the air, it's really hot outside and I want to open my windows :|

Usually a load of them descend at once. A swarm of wasps got into the stationery cupboard of our office recently through an hitherto unnoticed hole in the hall. We had to get Rentokill to check for a nest, but it looks like they (the wasps) didn't like what they found and had moved out.

Ok, the nest probabilty seems low. I'm going to spill petrol and light this AC on fire. For good measure.

It's the only way to be sure....
