I really like Phantom lord. The drums are cool in that.

If Mustaine wouldn't have gotten fired, then there wouldn't be Megadeth...right?

Hammett would still be in Exodus...

...Who knows?

What if...indeed....

@ Raven: One of Hetfield's pre-Metallica bands was named Phantom Lord. So whatever contributions Mustaine may have made, I suspect that Hetfield is at least partially responsible for that song. (Although I'm too lazy to look up the songwriting credits.)

Yup, I realise that.  But Mustaine was heavily involved in writing that song, as he gets a credit.  I really couldn't care less for the 'Dave vs. Metallica' debate...they're both great bands, although Metallica haven't been in the same league as Megadeth since And Justice, and St. Anger doesn't even qualify as an album in my eyes.

Speaking of songwriting credits, didn't Mustaine get  credit on a song or 2 on Ride the Lightning? For some reason, the title track and Fade To Black are sticking in my mind...

Kinda like Cliff getting credit on To Live Is To Die, even after he died. He must have wrote it before he was killed

@Raven: Yeah, I hated St. Anger too. When Megadeth opened for H&H on their tour, they did a good jopb. I only knew a few songs, but the crowd enjoyed it. They played for about an hour

Cliff wrote the final spoken couplet in 'To Live Is To Die' (AWESOME song, by the way).

Mustaine (co)wrote
Ride The Lightning
The Call Of Ktulu (originally titled 'When Hell Freezes Over')

Don't think he had anything to do with Fade to Black.

You can hear the same Dmin chord progression in 'Hangar 18' as in 'The Call Of Ktulu'

There are all kinds of strange connections between bands that I learn about through making rock family trees. I am currently working on my massive magnum opus, the thrash metal family tree. In so doing, I have discovered a roundabout connection between Metallica and Megadeth which does not involve Dave Mustaine.

After being kicked out of Metallica in favor of Cliff Burton, Ron McGovney spent a few years not doing any music. He was eventually persuaded to join a band called Phantasm around 1987 or 1988. Phantasm's drummer was Gene Hoglan, whose main band at the time was Dark Angel. The previous Dark Angel drummer (the guy who Hoglan replaced) was Lee Rausch. Rausch had joined Dark Angel after leaving an early Megadeth lineup.

Allow me to state, for the record, my opinion that Dark Angel was a fucking awesome band.

"9 songs, 67 minutes, 246 riffs!"

I need to get that album.  Or Darkness Descends.  Come to that, I need a lot of thrash.

England play Tonga tonight - and the winner goes through to the quarters. Am I nervous, or what? :D
England 36 - Tonga 20 (4 England tries and the Bonus point).

Why was I ever Worried. :D
