So tonight I've been cleaning out some drawers behind my bed (the bottom ones don't get used much, as they're hard to access) and found a few things I didn't realise I had.
- A model tank kit I started making, and for some unknown reason never finished.
- Some old model railway trains
- Some postcards from a hotel we went to every summer since I was born, and is now knocked down
- A few games that came with GFX cards that I never even knew I had
- and finally, a cassette tape.
The tape begins with my voice at age 8 - now that was fcking weird to hear myself at that age - and then it turns out is a recording of me interviewing my Grandad about his time in the bombers during WW2 for school. My Grandads been dead 12 years, and his voice was really not something I ever expected to hear again. As well as slightly tearing me and my mother up, it's made me somewhat frustrated with myself... because the voice I had in my head for him was not the same. It was several years before he died so he would naturally sound a bit different, but I don't like that I couldn't remember his voice properly.
Actually the tapes in pretty good condition, the way the voice is different is that it's far clearer than I remember... but that makes sense given it was a few years before he died, and he was healthier at the time. Shouldn't be surprised really, can't explain why it upset me. It was nice to hear, if unexpected.
Coming to the realization that going to see Canada play in the Women's World Cup next summer will be a thing. Also many group stages are going to be played in Ottawa. Awesome!
