Been using Opera since I got my first computer in 2005. Now it won't open the forum properly, so I tried Chrome and it's so so so so so much faster in everything.

Firefox 4life.

But it does make me wonder NP, what programs etc you use to run the rest of your computer with, if this is the first time you've changed browser :p

Used Chrome for a few years now, previously Firefox, never used Opera.

Tried one called Sleipnir the other day just out of curiosity, not really that different, looks pretty but doesn't add any extra functionality at all and runs a bit slower.

I played a five-a-side match with the company football team tonight. We were utter crap and lost 13-3 ... our opponents had a much better goalkeeper, more substitutes than us and were able to run more than us. I feel embarrassed.

It does. Myself, I felt I used all my energy defensively and had very little to contribute in attack. And when I found mysielf in 1 on 2 situations repeatedly my defensive efforts didn't always pay off either ...

Firefox is my personal favorite. They're all good though.

Sorry, I hadn't noticed this "tagged" message before. If you can find a good job in either place, you can't really go wrong. I like Austin and even considered moving there. But, I chose to stay in Southern California because it's awesome.

I've read bearfan's posts and I think he is seriously understating the weather differences. The weather in Austin is OK--winters are mild but do dip below freezing at times, and summers are unspeakably awful--whereas San Diego has arguably the best weather IN THE WORLD. Cool breezes in the summer, warm in the winter. I've found that living in nice weather makes a huge difference in quality of life. Generally, I would agree that San Diego is nicer the closer you are to the ocean, and as you go farther inland the weather is not as good and it gets hotter in the summer...but not TEXAS hot.

I also agree that housing is going to be a bit more expensive in San Diego, but I'm not convinced the difference will be that great. Austin is a hot real estate market (no pun intended) and housing prices and costs of living are higher there than anywhere else in Texas except North Dallas. What does a one-bedroom apartment near Old Town San Diego cost, as compared to a one-bedroom apartment near Sixth Street in Austin? Those are reasonably comparable neighborhoods. If you are renting, that weighs in favor of Texas financially, because Texas has no state income tax but Austin has outrageous property taxes. Cost of living is probably comparable otherwise, maybe slightly higher in CA, but salaries may be higher too. I also think being a single 40-something guy in San Diego would be a LOT of fun, less sure about Austin, which is a college town.

I hear a lot of good things about Austin and TX in general. Lots of good music and stuff to do.

The thing I have in my head is "I wanna live in southern CA"... I might have to try it just to satisfy my craving. Even if its wrong :)

You guys have given me a ton of information and a lot to think about. I was reading somewhere that Austin just received a bid to build the US's largest solar energy facility (or something like that). I have read some really good things about tech in TX. Funny, I was looking at lists of 'good warm cities to live in' and 'best cities for tech jobs'. San Diego and Houston were on both of those lists!! ...I think I'm scared of Houston!! :/

I tell you what, though, looking at Indeed, SD and Austin have tons of good jobs pop up every day; I just need to really figure out wage differences.

...and I made a mistake of looking through rental sites and seeing ocean views :) ...I'm a ways off-- at minimum 2 years, 4 max, but I've never moved anywhere, really, so I wanna do it right.

Houston is a cool place, lot of stuff to do, but real humid in the summer. On the good side, not too far from the beach. The Gulf is much more swimable than the Pacific in terms of water temperature.

How is it safety-wise. I mean, I'm an adult and can handle stuff, but there seems to be this 'idea' about Houston that its a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Come to Vancouver, Wasted.
Lots of tech jobs and pretty ladies and the best summers on the planet.
Better mountains, more green, and far more adventure on the water than Austin or San Diego.
Rarely too cold or too hot.
Just make sure you book time off in November and February to find yourself some sun - San Diego is only an incredible two- or three-day ride on your bike away.

Yet another protestor (protesting the omissions that led to Soma coalmine disaster) was shot by the police in Turkey today. The bullet went straight into his mouth, got stuck in his neck and paralyzed him. He's in critical condition. Happened just an hour after Erdoğan's statement saying "If I was a dictator, you wouldn't be able to do protests on the streets."

It is like any large metro area ... there are areas of it you want to avoid, the rest is perfectly fine. San Diego too ... avoiding Southeast San Diego is a must as are some border areas.

Went to the pool today, it was pretty awesome. Later I ate the best burger in the world. It was glorious. Burger equivalent of Hallowed Be Thy Name.
