Everyone should do that. I've said this before and I'll say it again: Piracy and internet sharing isn't bad for music, it's GOOD for music. I wouldn't be a Maiden fan if it wasn't for piracy and sharing. I bought all of their albums because I appreciate their music and I spent 150 dollars on a concert ticket for them. From 0 to some money. That's good for them.

It's funny that you say that (and I know it's a joke), because that whole case is one of the biggest misunderstandings about music piracy and effects of internet to music. When Lars sued Napster, he did it for two reasons:

1) Their newest single, I Disappear, got leaked onto the internet. Any artist has the right to hold their music to themselves.
2) Internet sharing websites and programs didn't share informations, they didn't have advanced informational technologies.

Because of the reason two, Napster and the likes actually was a threat to music. Later on, the musicians started to keep track of internet, sharings, downloads and the likes and started to make use of that. They opened channels in YouTube, they had agreements with iTunes, they created pages in social media websites and some of them started to track the informations. This resulted in a boost of popularity for those bands. Internet reaches almost everywhere in the world whereas it's not that easy for you to find that one album you would be getting in your local stores. I haven't seen a Maiden album in any of the stores in the city I live in.

There's a reason why he changed his mind.

Eh. Not convinced he really meant it, based on some other interviews. Probably just decided to stop bragging about it cause the fans don't like it and he can't change the world anyway.

I don't really remember. Some text interview I saw on Blabbermouth. Just the way he speaks about all this doesn't convince me he means it.

Well I can't say anything about that but my other point stands valid. I think Lars was right about what he did. People thought the people (not the company) he sued were just casual fans who downloaded their stuff. They weren't. They were the ones who leaked the single to the internet. You have no right to do that.

I haven't seen an interview where Lars goes against piracy in a really long time. He probably really means it too. You have to remember that one the whole napster thing went down, the whole downloading MP3's thing was still new, most artists didn't understand it. Fast forward ten years and it's much more clear that the internet helps both the artist and the consumer.

I don't know .. I paid $6 to see them in concert, then have faithfully bought every record (singles included) and t-shirts since then

Doubt it, tickets run pretty cheap for Maiden shows out here. They get expensive if you want good seats though.

Well this sucks. I had gotten an Amazon gift card for Christmas and I saw that someone was selling Psycho Motel's first album, State of Mind for a good price and sold here in the US. It was even the Japanese import with the extra songs. I just got an email from the guy selling it saying that Amazon's system listed the item twice and the cd had sold weeks ago.... So no Psycho Motel for me. :( That shit is hard to find! But hey, at least my gift card was refunded.

Get yourself a State Piece of Mind for consolation. :D
