St. Anger would not be so bad if the production did not sound like crap (I've heard comments about Lars' Toys R Us drum set, LOL) and if there were some cool solos (or any solos for that matter).  Last time I listened to it, I thought that Some Kind of Monster was the best song there.  What the hell am I doing posting serious stuff on the...

MADNESS FORUM!?!?!?

Give me Tom Baker any day.  Or William Hartnell.  Or Jon Pertwee.  Now there was a man!...
Jon Pertwee is the very best of all Doctors. Should any reader be interested in what Pertwee's interpretation of the Doctor was, google it and find a very Hendrix inspired creation.
Genghis - be it serious or not, post it in this thread and increase the count + 1. :D

And St Anger is not the worst Album I've ever heard - but it certainly ranks as one of Metallica's worst.

So Albie, what is your worst Metallica album if St. Anger isn't it?
Reload.

When it comes to studio albums by Metallica, in my view it is the first three (in no particular order - although Kill 'Em All is so NWOBHM that it has the edge over the rest), then ...And Justice, then the Black Album, then Load, then St Anger, then Regurgitated Reload.

Before Maiden, I was a Metallica nut. I think my #1 Metallica song is Nothing Else Matters...that's like their only ballad! I know when Load and Reload came out everyone was pissed cuz they cut their hair and looked like pimps on the album cover...but out of those 2 albums the song that I really didn't care for was Mama Said (too country). I think Aint My Bitch and Fuel are 2 excellent openers! I saw Met in 1998 and had a blast!

Sadly, when I heard St. Anger I was let doen cuz everyone was hyping it up SOOO much! I thought it was horrible. The movie Some Kind Of Monster was better than the album!

*too serious!*

I have to work tomorrow on the 4th...*yuck* Shit, that's serious too!  Oh well

I quite like ReLoad.  Mama Said is a horrible song (from Load), and there aren't too many horrible songs on ReLoad.  As for St. Anger...Jesus H.

-Those drums
-James' vocals
-Bob Cock Rock
-No solos
-Drop D nu metal-style riffing
-Those drums
-The fact that it's St. Anger
-Ridiculous lyrics
-Boring riffs, and few of them
-Did I mention those drums?

I only started to enjoy Load and Reload AFTER listening to St. Anger lol. After that pile of cow dung they are rather decent albums :D

hmmm....it's a horrible album, but I will allways praise Metallica for that....

because they created the most shity of the shit, and still this shit did won a grammy (the 7th or 8th !!! in their career)

...what the hell !! so now, we all know what grammys really are : a piece of shit

ps : the next year Motorhead won its first grammy, for the cover of whiplash !! what-the-fuck ??

I saw them for the first time in their Garage Inc. tour of '99 I was 15 :D Awesome concert, they played Master of Puppets in its entirety, something they hadn't done in a while.

That is one reason I quite like it - at times, solo's get a little too predictable and self-indulgent.

I saw them live for the first time around 17 years ago (a little after after ...And Justice but before the Black album) - I've not seen them since.

I never saw them, but I would like to

100 % agreed with you

the point with Metallica is that they give the impression that they try to do different things

True...but when about the only thing Metallica had left going for them was Kirk's leads, and the odd riff...

I don't mind bands experimenting, but dammit, get it right! Why make a CRAPPY Nü Metal album, when they are fucking Metallica and they could've done a good or even great one?

I know this is the madness forum, but you can't be serious.   Metallica made a living off ballads in the 1990s.  Hell that's the only reason they've hit mainstream.  If it wasn't for ballands like 'Unforgiven', 'Nothing Else Matters'  including the hard rock 'Enter Sandman' (not a ballad but certainly not heavy metal) they'd never be so huge.

Speaking of Kirk's leads, the only thing that saves Enter Sandman IS his soloing.  That's a beauty.  I never cared for this song even when I first started listening to Metallica when the ballads got me into them.

Pity they didn't keep Dave Mustaine *cough* better than Kirk *cough*...haha, I'm just stirring.
Some of Load is fun...but it's not metal and it's not my Metallica...
I'm far too fond of the ...And Justice for All and back. Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightening being my favourites. Although every time I listen to Garage Inc. I get something new and exciting out of it. In fact Metallica's rendition of Sabra Cadabra and National Acrobat got me in to the later Black Sabbath albums and then in to the Dio stuff, so when I go to see Heaven and Hell (I still call it Sabbath) in a month, I should thank Metallica a little.  :P

PS. Down are supporting them, are they worth listening too? I like Pantera but find Anselmo to be...well, not so tolerable.

I first saw "Met" (whom I prefer to refer to as "Metallica") in 1985. I was about 15 feet from Cliff.

Nice to meet you, youngster. :P

Thank you SMX, nice to meet you also  ;) I've been to Denver once...want to go back! Fell in love w/Rocky Mountain National Park! How many times have you been there?

15 feet from Cliff? Wow! That's awesome! Did he play Anestesia? I just listebed to that solo today...I forgot how killer it was! I have been just pounding the Maiden into my brain :P

Nice change of pace...now if 'Arry would just do a bass solo...
