And where is WAAACKEN in relation to you Raven? *silly American question*
Depending on his start point (I'm not sure where in Ireland Raven's is from), this is his possible route. :D

And if that is your route Raven, perhaps you could give us a wave just before you get to stage 37. ;)

... And Raven can do it under 24 hours.

It's funny because driving through Ontario, even from Hamilton to Kenora (last stop before Manitoba) is more than Raven's proposed trip.

Actually, it's quite easy.  First, I get the number 21 bus from Drumbeg Corner in to the Belfast Europa Buscentre.  Then I walk 50m to the Jury's Inn, and pick up the Aircoach there.  Then, that takes me to Dublin International Airport, where I get an Aer Lingus (not sure if Easyjet or Ryanair go, but if they do, I'll take them instead) to Hamburg.  Then, I just need to journey the 50 miles to Wacken.  Travel time?  About 10 hours.  NOT driving cross-country! :P

If you mean that it's much easier to travel in North America, it's because the road network in the US/Canada is much more weighted towards large motorways (or freeways) and few stops.  To travel the 100 miles from Belfast to Dublin would take you about...2 to 2.5 hours nowadays.  10 years ago, it took you about 5.

And, because this is Madness,

MAIDEN!

This would explain why my memories of driving from Zagreb, Croatia to the coast always lasted longer than it should have.  I think that the family trip from Zagreb to Belgrade to over 4 hours, when in reality it should not take as long.  I wonder if the new motorways will improve the time travel.  I find out in August during my trip.  And just because this is the madness forum...

IRON FUCKIN' MAIDEN!!!

Actually, I've just found out that Ryanair fly from Dublin to Hamburg.  So I can get there even cheaper, in a flying bucket held together by paperclips! :yey:
