My laptop is starting to give up on me. The battery has been fucked for months but since yesterday morning it has overheated and turned itself off soon after I've plugged the charger in.

My Mac does that. I cheat by getting an ice pack out of the freezer, putting a wash cloth over it, then sitting the laptop on it. My system fan died, so that's life.

I haven't done that (ever) but somebody has already suggested that I take it apart and get any dust out. That'll be the next thing I try.
Be careful with that-- don't use an air compressor, because it has moisture in it. Canned air is best.

Because I have access to those sort of things! The IT guy is supposed to be visiting my class' study room soon so I will ask him about it.
I can buy a can of canned air for like $5 at the local computer store.
And that's Canadian money!
