According to Wikipedia, 9300 were launched, 300 made it, 6 people were killed, and minor damage. Not a massive success and the US kept it a secret during the war, so most people did not know we were bombed. The worry was that Japan would put biological weapons on it when it became clear they had little to lose towards the end of the war.

I've always thought the Japanese were hoping the population would be demoralised by the terror of witnessing enemy attack on their soil.

You might carry on, I'll just insert the events that are going on. Think of me as a breaking news graphic.

A 26 year old woman was killed by being crushed under a panzer. There are at least five people with cerebral hemorrhage caused by gas bombs exploding on their head. Witnesses say that the police are aiming for people's heads when they're throwing the gas bombs. More people are going to Taksim Square and other protests have started in other parts of İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir. The events started on 28th May as more of a celebration of environment leading to an attack by the police. Police started a full operation yesterday (31st May) and it's getting bigger bigger over the time. It's 00:49 here and I've heard many people are attending to the Taksim Square.

Sad thing is, no TV channel is reporting the events. Not a single one of them. This is more of an uprising against authoritarian Erdoğan régime and the way media handles it isn't contradictory. Thank FSM for social media.

RT News are giving quite big coverage and the BBC is covering it, but with what sounds like bias in favour of the police and government

It's 02:18 here but the events are going on, even getting stronger. A new group of policemen came to Beşiktaş which is about 1 km away from Taksim Square. Almost every part of İstanbul are protesting, biggest protests are in Taksim Square and Beşiktaş. I've heard the the people are turning their lights on and off and creating noises in protest almost in every country of the city. Beşiktaş, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe fans came together and captured the Gezi Park. In İzmir, the police attack has recently started in Alsancak, the fans of two rival clubs of the city are organizing the protest events.

Groups of thousands of people are on their way to İstanbul and are expected to be in the scene in the morning. Many cities have already programmed protest events for tomorrow, including the city I live in, Samsun.

Police Union has called out the government for using the policemen as conductors and that they should back down. But another police attack is on its way, thousands of policemen are going to Beşiktaş at the moment.

Will let you know if anything else happens.

Cheers. I'm pretty safe because I live in a government supporter majority and mostly conservative city (sadly) that is far away from big cities. But to be honest even though I'm sad and angry, I'm kind of excited. Because it's the first time people have connected against the authoritarian government and actually did something. I actually hope it continues because it may lead to something this time. Maybe not a resign, but more people getting to know the truth and government losing prestige.

The government and partisan press are trying their best to avoid the potential outcome but it's inevitable if this thing continues.

Nobody asked me but I really feel the need to write why I want these events to continue and Erdoğan to be down. I'll try to stay away from unnecessary details as much as possible.

Our secularity is in serious danger. Erdoğan is a conservative Islamist who can't tolerate people of other faiths and thoughts. He recently put out a law that put restriction to alcohol because it's forbidden in Islam, accused those who defend the right of alcohol consumption "drunks", also called Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and İsmet İnönü drunkards. A famous Turkish pianist, Fazıl Say went ahead and said he was an atheist and constantly tried to defend the rights of people who weren't religious. Result? He's jailed.

Erdoğan and his party has crushed the seperation of powers already. The president is the ex-foreign affairs minister of the party, the head of constitutional court is a partizan and other courts of justice are in constant pressure. Erdoğan also wants to bring in a system closer to American presedential system to become even more powerful. Democracy is only on paper. So is freedom of media. He constantly censors the media and the internet, details would take too much time but these ongoing events aren't even shown in TV channels.

Overriding ongoing problem of unemployedment, the widening gap between the rich and poor, he constantly asks people to have at least three kids. He says he wants a young country but we all know knowledgeable people wouldn't have many kids if there is a possibility that they can't take care of them well or unemployment problems, but ignorant people would continue to have many kids and these are the people that vote for his party in general. Why not gain more supporters, right?

He never is aware of what he says. There are so many examples of him breaking his own promises. For a recent example, for years he said he wouldn't sit around the table with PKK, he did it this year, making many concessions to them as well. A blatant and funny example is that he rejected the arguments that said Greater Middle East plan was an American plan and that if the people who made the arguments didn't prove it they were vile rascals, then two years later came out and said that Americans considered a Greater Middle East plan and they participated in it.

The starting point of the ongoing events was the plan to take down the trees in the historic park and build a shopping centre. Following the first protests, he said "Whatever you do, we've made our decision and we'll implement it." hence the first big problems on 31st of May. Environment is in serious danger with all those projects that are going on. You know the police stuff already, it hasn't just started, it's been going on for a while. Ten university student got together and unfurled some banners and they were attacked with pepper sprays. Police killed many people this year in many events as well. Pepper spray smell is our national smell these days. People who participate in protests are blacklisted, there's been cases where university students were banned from their universities because of their participations.

In the government budget, Directorate of Religious Affairs gain four times as much share than Ministry of National Education. Education systems and exam systems are incredibly inconsistent. The format of high school entrance exam changed five times in six years. He's trying his best to give advantages to İmam Hatip High Schools (imam : muslim religious priest) and take advantages from Science High Schools and Anatolian High Schools which are high in student quality. Why would he make better educational reforms when he gets his votes from the uneducated people anyway? The chart showing rate of reading habit is really close to the results of the last election. Erdoğan's party AKP was dominate in places with low reading habit, the main opposition, centre-left party CHP gained its wins in places with high reading habit. Inner parts of Ankara are high in reading habit and CHP dominated but outside parts are low, have more people and AKP dominated. Reversed version applies with İstanbul as well.

I could probably go and on, transportation, health care, more detailed economic state, LGBT rights (Erdoğan is homophobic as well, so this is really way way off), his constant threats to people, his and companion's constant attempts to attack people's private lives, the imprisonment of oppositional leftist and secularist writers with made-up plans backed up by amateurly planned fake documentations (they've been in prison for four years and they still don't know what their actual alleged crimes are), his handling of terror, the fact that his son didn't do his military service and he's a malingerer, the fact that he constantly buys uber expensive planes, wants a passenger airline all for himself, all the corruption, bribes etc.

This is why I'm psyched about these current events. This thread probably isn't the place to put this in, but what the hell. :D
