It's probably because the majority of the "friends" nowadays aren't really friends but harlequins to one's self joy.

Depends what it was. But I'd say its common courtesy to say a simple "thanks" if someone helps out with something. If I helped someone with something and they just turned around on me and walked away I'd think they were stuck-up douche bags
