He's also just as conservative as Benedict, if not more so. The only difference is he cooks his own meals and doesn't live in a palace. Big deal. I want to see this guy actually do something positive first. I remain skeptical.

To be truthful, sometimes I don't know what I am. I was raised as a Catholic and I see lots of good things in it. Way more than in certain other faiths. But I am a very progressive one, so I disagree with the conservative doctrines which can harm individuals. Don't forget: I am Dutch, and in the Netherlands there are many less strict Catholics. The Poles would call us atheists.

I feel I am more tolerant than some atheists, who sometimes condemn certain things in a more unforgiving way than religious people.

There are douchebags everywhere.

But I think you're evading the point. Atheism isn't the alternative to a confession or church. Atheism means: You don't believe in God, or divinity in general. There are no levels, it's not a spectrum, it's one of the few absolutes you can talk about. If you don't believe in divinity, you're an atheist. If you're not sure, you're an agnostic. If you believe, you are a theist. Everything else comes after that.

I was seeing this in the television in a local house with a few people around, I was the only one NOT swearing!! The others played it cool, but they were all the time in front of the TV

And -without admit it- they were worrying if he would be a black or not!

:shrugs: I'm not atheist and you're arrogant for assuming so. Extremism from either side is dangerous but most atheists I know at least don't try and force their 'skepticism' down other people's throats which is more than you can say for religious extremists.

Actually, my statement was directed towards Forostar. I know you're not atheist, and I've always been under the impression that Foro was, but naturally, I didn't know.

I am to blame here, Per. I assumed you both were atheists. Was it such an offense Natalie?
I don't mind Perun's assumption at all. I see it as a compliment, even.

I said I know a few. Never meant you by saying that.
I have to say I'm not very religious myself but reading about his humble lifestyle and the fact that he supposedly lives by example of St. Francis is a good thing I guess.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_of_Assisi
When he arrived in Rome, he came like John Paul II without his followers (a "team"). He wanted to give that money for the poor.

I don't know if I am atheist or not, probably I am not an atheist per se.. But I'm definitely not a Christian, even though I've been raised as such.. I could be an animist maybe, if I had to be something.

Religion is something personal and underground, when it goes massive it becomes a travesti..

I turn it around. Attitudes (one of them being: shoving things through people's throats) are for me more important than what someone believes. A believe is individual and as long as someone is not bothering someone else with it (in a negative way) I don't mind a rat's ass if someone is an atheist or not. Tolerance and intolerance, that's what matters most for me.

Just to put it out there : I'm an atheist. Proud to have read all religious pieces of work (Qur'an, Bible, Torah or other philosophical works etc.) I could find and disregard them all.

I have no problem with people believing in a god while I personally don't, but I do have a problem with people who believe in religions. However after all, everyone can make mistakes and that's okay.

Nope. This is not all my friend. You've only read the religions of the Book, or so called Abrahamic religions.. There are plenty of others, the so called Pagan or animistic religions that you can NOT read them. Only experience them
