Gamma Ray and Helloween have many likeable songs. I can understand why many Maiden fans like their style. It's fast, contains lots of melodic guitar work and especially the old Helloween (but also some later) have a very raw, aggressive edge to it. Next to Maiden, later Helloween and Gamma Ray are two bands that are melodic and powerful at the same time. Also, like Maiden, they are more complex than the average metal band.

I like old Helloween more than old Metallica or Slayer. It's rough, it's fast, cool drums, cooler guitar solos, cooler harmonies, cooler melodies. And: cooler vocals. What I think is that a few of you don't like the vocals, but really, the music has lots to go for. At times, the rhythm guitars are outstanding. Very fast, cool patterns. Speaking of patterns... With Markus Großkopf (or Grosskopf) Helloween have an ace in their ranks. This guy possesses a phenomenal combination of speed and melodic feel. One of the best and most original bass players I've heard in metal.

I remember a discussion on the vocals, if some would like to check that, enjoy here:

It starts with DragonForce, then it's about Kiske, and later it's about Halford. :)

By the way, I do NOT like Helloween and Gamma Ray because they made a few happy metal songs. I am NOT a fan of Future World and other childy, happy melodic songs with silly lyrics. Thankfully, there's lots of other stuff as well...

Besides the two lengthy Keeper songs, Helloween made a number of adventurous epics later on as well, such as:

1993 (Godly solos and gotta love those mesmerizing riffs!)

1998

Maybe too adventurous or too proggy for some, but to me it shows the band has various sides, keeps willing to experiment, while still staying melodic and heavy at the same time.
The best 10 Helloween songs alone I'd take over the complete Saxon, Metallica and Slayer discographies, any day, anyplace, anytime.

You could call me a troll, because your post was pretty much exactly what I predicted. ;)

Anyway, I don't want to come across as a hater, I just had to make the definite conclusion that I don't like these two bands. I enjoy Future World and Keeper of the Seven Keys by Helloween, and Rebellion in Dreamland and Heaven or Hell by Gamma Ray, and that's it.

And speaking of things I do like, I'm currently coming to the conclusion yet again that A Matter of Life and Death is one of my absolute favourite records... ever.

So you were actually sure I would react, let alone know what I would do? Damn I feel like a puppet.

Can't really understand why just two songs per band. The songs are pretty different from each other as well. But never mind.

I think it's my favourite one of the current line-up. It dropped 2nd when The Final Frontier came out, but it has crawled back to the top again.

Did you reboot? Sometimes that helps. Or just uninstall it, reboot and redo it.

In related news, I'm about dome with Firefox. 7 versions in the last year and its a huge pig? Meh.

They [Mozilla] did say they will be doing a "rapid release" programme - but yeah, it did seem like it wasn't that long ago when we were on FF4. It still remains my favoured choice of browser.

Poor girl ... The TV station should probably have a less attractive person do that job :D . However, I guess the presence of a camera would be enough to bring out some of that behaviour.

That's the point of trolling. :P

I don't know why, it's just that way. I don't care for the subject enough to figure it out, to be honest.

Trolls eh?
