If you don't mind Google translator crap, you might laugh at this.
So today my mother wrote to me on the way home took bread somewhere. Well, in HK went to a small Tesco at the station, and told myself that I take something to eat on the train, a piece of bread, maybe some crisps / chips.
I did not need the whole cart, so I took a running basket, something and pulled it over. I was very ignorant there, so when I threw the bread there, and some apricot pie, so I went looking for some chips, I projezdil crisscross, often built and looked (I think that I look like a jerk), you would the shelves are crowded and it is not clear. I finally found a place to be křupajícími racks with similar ingredients, but there I found only cornflakey. I said to hell with it, I'm paying, I look to the basket and there around 7 items unknown to me. My bread or cake anywhere. Whatthefuck. Inside Gingerly I started panicking and quite imperceptibly, and I began to find the unfortunate person whose cart I appropriated, but after a look around around, not looking at me suspiciously nobody, nobody looked for when I returned to the bread or anything. Foreign purchases did not want to return to the shelves, I rode the train, and most importantly I ran there for 2 hours before I found the destination of all those items. So I also did that viewing basket left next chlaďáků with drinks and klidil slowly out of sight. My mind was still a bit derailed, so I just grabbed a few more cakes in a bag and headed for better cash registers. But I put in there more species, and obviously inexperienced lady cashier did not know which is the one with the white interior. The name I know only what I thought at that moment, is to get out of sight. The price I did not know. So I called another cashier to help, advise us and a customer. This type is found then, but after a few minutes Mrs. billed for something that was most similar, and I went. At the corner of East stepped toward me with a rather securiťák nevyspalým appearance. I wonder, oh, cameras, now I will explain about the cupcake thrown (once with me in a supermarket asked about the backpack aside, if I have a bomb in it). How to explain this I would not know, I would not play the "I forgot my pills this morning" Luckily, after a while turned out to be heading in my direction, but does not want anything about me, so I can not know anything about myself then headed to the east. I do not know what he thought the man, whom I have prepared a purchase, do not know if you noticed, or seen me in that moment did not say anything, or if it found it .. but next time I'll probably wheelchair to get him in front of him, and well under control.
I have no more mental power to translate it all. If it's not clear, some weird shit happened to me in the mall.  :ninja:

The content of my thesis is now more or less complete, save a couple of chapter abstracts.

From now on, the rest is revision. Which still means a shitload of work ...

Sounding good so far!  :ok:
I just sent another application... I'm becoming a tad superstitious, so I'm not going to make a big deal out of it. I need some more crossed fingers though, because if it works, this thing will be huge.

I've got a couple spare ones.
So, usually most of my work in IT revolves around resetting passwords, unlocking users, teaching people how to turn on monitors, some software troubleshooting and the basic 'new pc install'.

Today, I got to visit the grave yard of pc parts to put a couple back together-- that is kinda fun.

Very soon, we are setting up a VM Ware server, and putting Server 2008 on it-- that should be real fun!

and, Wasted has been the only IT guy here this week... not bad so far!

My firm is switching from Windows XP/Office 2003 to Windows 7/Office 2010.  Apparently the transition is creating havoc for the "pilot" users -- old dog new tricks problems.  Any thoughts/advice from the IT guys on this forum?
And congrats to Eddie on his new job -- and good luck to Perun on his job search.

OK, just me, but I love both the new ones!  First, Win7 works pretty well once you get used to it.  For users, the 'aesthetics' are different, but I like the new look.  Typically, if you are getting a new pc with the new OS, its going to be a lot faster than what you are probably used to.  Some of the interfaces I like better (like when you are looking for documents).  The search function is nicer, you just hit the 'start' button and start typing-- super easy.

As for the Office 2010, I have had it longer and like it a lot.  It looks a ton different than what you are used to, it uses the 'ribbon' across the top, but once you figure out where everything is at, all my users have liked it better.

MS has a pretty nice site about how to learn your old Office tricks in the new version:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/suppo ... spx?CTT=97
Come to think of it, my mom is in her early 60's, and the company she works for switched from XP to Vista, then as soon as they could, switched to Win7, and she loves it!

Again, to most users, its just the way it looks that is different-- the old 'my computer' and 'documents and settings' has been changed for 'computer' and 'users' (which makes more sense).  My documents are the same, my music, my pics, etc.  I will say this-- iTunes is really weird on Win7 boxes for some reason.

Yeah, that seems to be the thing that is driving people nuts.  I've had to deal with Excel 2010 recently, and there was no "print" button across the top, I had to hunt for the print function, which was mildly annoying.

Thanks for the input.  Here's the real question:  would you recommend that I go to the tutorials being offered by the firm (which will no doubt take hours and be dumbed-down) or is it intuitive enough that a reasonably intelligent person (like I fancy myself to be) will figure it out as I go?

Following up my earlier post -- I just got invited to the Spotify free version.  I haven't had much time to fully play with it, but it seems pretty awesome.  Now listening to some Billy Squier songs that aren't on my greatest hits CD (which, by the way, omits Lonely is the Night, WTF??).  All this music at my fingertips, for free, and it's perfectly legal!  Some noteworthy gaps in the catalog -- no AC/DC or Beatles, for starters -- but still a very cool product.  Seriously considering shelling out the $120/yr for unlimited use, no ads, and the ability to store songs on my iPhone to play them offline.

If you know how to use any version, it won't take you long to find out where its all out. A little secret? At the top of all Office versions (word, excel, etc) on the left side is a little black down arrow that kinda looks like an upside down eject button. Hit that and anything that is checked will show up in the upper left 'quick access' bar above the 'file' tab. Included is 'print' or 'quick print' which will send it to your default printer. Also, there is a 'print preview' IIRc, so you can select a dif printer. Much quicker to use those than hunt around for the print button.

I love coffee!  I was surprised to see Dunkin Donuts coffee beans are more expensive than Starbucks... Crazy.

Well, after the longest chapter of my thesis has been through the "professor filter", it seems there are still some hours of hard work ahead.

But a few hours over the next few says is a walk in the park. I don't need to work until 23:58 any of the remaining days.
