McPherson's Ridge. Buford scouted Heth's Division coming down the Chambersburg Pike and deployed in line on a wood fence to force Heth in a line and slow them up. He was concerned that Heth was the advance of the ANV and that they'd get between the AotP and DC. Basically, Buford realized that he was in the best spot to fight, and did so. Smart man.
