To get a contract on a mobile in the UK, you could be looking at £25 or more per month. And the calls are something like £0.10 per minute. I get my mobile supplied and paid for by work, so I can't say for sure how much it costs as I have not had a mobile bill in years - but it something like that. You could opt for pay-as-you go, but that is still upwards of £0.10 per minute talk time.

But the big charge is when you call either from one mobile network to another - or call a mobile from a landline. That costs a fair bit and a lot of people are reluctant to call mobiles for this reason.

And as landlines cost nothing to make calls to other landlines, mobiles are only really used for texting on the whole.

My contract, here, for a basic phone is $39.95 a month (contrast to about $45 for my land line).  I get free incoming calls, free calls to any other mobile from the same company (US Cellular, for instance), and 1000 free minutes a month to any other number.  I did some upgrades, cause I'm a junkie, but for another $25 I have internet on my Blackberry, which works pretty ok.  (I have never once gone over on my minutes)
 
Cellphones cause brain cancer anyway. Technology should have stopped evolving in 1985 in my opinion. But on a more positive side; I close on my new house tomorrow!!!  :yey:

You do get free talk time with most mobile providers but not unlimited and all incoming calls are free. I just had a look at some contracts with Orange - a Blackberry Bold 9700, for example, costs £20 per month but you would have to pay £149 for the phone. A £37 per month bill gives you the phone for free. And the calls can be £0.20 per minute after you've used your free talk-time.
All these prices include sales tax/VAT, by the way. And this may go some way to explaining why it looks expensive - its 17.5% and soon to be 20%.

I can't believe people still fall for that "the phone is free" crap. They either charge you for the phone long term as in this case, or they got you by the balls for at least 2 years.

Joined my dad for a walk to test out my new arch supports.


He kicked my ass. I was kinda in pace, but at three points he had to wait about 2 minutes for me to join. Hour something walk, and now my toes burn.

Those are my second pair, after the first ones turned out to not work too well.

These seem better, besides the finger thing. Damn, the earliest I can go to get the supports checked is after my first shift at the hotel. Damn.

I needed an addition on my left foot.  It is better now.  But there is still mild stiffness every morning.  Oh well, a life time of walking improperly, and after the leg has stopped growing, means that I'll have a permanent disability.  Wah-wah.  I'm disabled.  :ninja:
