I dunno, Bruce sounds pretty fantastic to me... still much better than 2012-2014.

The only song I think just does not work for his range anymore is Aces High. I love that tune, but it's time it was retired for good... they've already invested in the inflatable plane though, so that's not happening! I'd much rather have Where Eagles Dare as the opener, and then throw in another punchy song later in the set to make up for it (DWYBO or something)

Why downtune? He sounds really good, much better than for the most part this decade and miles better than in most tours during the 80s and early 90s. Furthermore, he told Chris Jericho earlier this year that downtuning changes dramatically the way songs that were originally recorded in standard tuning sound, implying that he was not in favour of altering the essence of the songs.

Hats off to him for being this good still.

I just felt that comparing his voice during the Ed Hunter tour to his voice now the difference is more than obvious.

He is nearly 20 years older! He probably peaked around that time.

Your voice gets deeper and darker as you grow older. Bruce can still hit most notes, definitely more consistently and with better control than in the 80s. He might not be as great as he was in 1999, but he definitely is miles better than he was before he left Maiden. Remarkable if you ask me.

Yep, I agree. And since he is is past his peak what could be better than downtuning for his convenience?

Too fast if you ask me!

I was at that show and can clearly remember the roar of the audience when Bruce entered the stage.
I was at Essen 99, the crowd going mental when Bruce entered is something I will never forget.

No crowd from tours then on I went to came close to that

Smartphones didn't exist in 1999. If that show happened today then everyone would be watching through their phones.

What is the point of "he does not like the way songs sound downtuned" that you do not understand? :) I do agree with that, as songs written in standard tuning tend to sound pretty soulless when downtuned.

Bruce has never chosen the easy way and I do not expect that to change any time soon. They did not downtune in 1986...

While true its still that German crowds are pretty reserved at those gigs.

The smartphone argument doesn't count in South America or the east block as they turn the heat up regardless

Edit : seen lagwagon in 2015 and crowd of 2000 people were louder than maiden 2003

It's a fair point, but if the new album tidbits thrown out by Steve in that interview are true ("half-finished songs", "ideas for a theme", "we're meeting early next year to work on it") and they record an album in early 2019 , I could see them dropping something for a new song, perhaps Wicker Man.

Yeah it does sound like there is plenty of ideas for a new album already, really wouldnt rule out them finishing the album before they head out on the next leg of the tour and chuck in a new single more like the gimme ed till im dead style tour. I'm not ruling out a late 2019 album release either with a European tour in 2020, anything is still possible,
