I can understand why someone would like TTAL - especially since I love The Apparition - and I can understand why someone would dislike ATG's lyrics, even if I don't. But to say that the execution is horrible? Wow.

I think the major problem with "To Tame a Land" is that, to people like me, who have yet to read Dune, the lyrics make nearly no sense at all. I can't deny, though (as I've already stated in the song's thread) that it is, musically, brilliant.

Yeah I'll agree, the music in TTAL is good, but I've never been a fan of the lyrics. I also feel like the whole is a bit short and there should've been more lyrics since it just feels like it hops over to the instrumental section rather quickly. The compositions and playing are mostly fine, although not amazing if you ask me.

Note that I've never read Dune but I don't think that's any excuse. Maiden has countless songs that are derived from another work (like Rime) and I still find those lyrics enjoyable. I just think that lyrically, TTAL is rather poor.

Yes, I understand that, but others aren't as vague as to the plot of the original work. "Rime..." lays out the plot very well. "Quest For Fire" (as dumb as it might be) does to. As does "Still Life", and pretty much every other Maiden lyrics of the same style. "To Tame a Land" seems to have been written only inside the context of the book, it does nothing to pull you into the plot (as the song doesn't even describe one properly) and thus makes zero sense to those who are almost complete strangers to the plot of Dune.

to that same extent. look at The Talisman in terms of newer content. That has a great story and flow as well.
