Ever since the comment about using new tech in the stage set, I've been hoping for a holographic BNW Eddie

That would be cool, since the BNW Eddie doesn't appear on the BNW tour ! It will be interesting to see how they gonna create it, just a cloud, lol, that is challenging !!!

Have to quote myself now about the speculation for the big Eddie. :D It'll be interesting to see if they'll end up having two big Eddies like they did during Maiden England with Seventh Son. As an alternative, I wouldn't rule out two walk-ons either.

The "Eternity Eddie" from the game could be potential walk-on Ed though.

I hope the stage don't contain Eddies from the game or like they do on the Give Me Edd... and Early Days tours ! - that's the worst stage sets in the Maiden history !!!

It would be cool if it has two big Eddie and the walk-on could be a Killers Eddie or TNOTB Eddie ! I think they used POM walk-on Eddie on the Early Days tour ! Or they can use a walk-on Eddie from the first album

I'm still puzzled by the nature of this tour so here's my few thoughts. There's a lot of it, both positive and negative and I'll put it in the spoiler tags, so it's easier to digest:

I only caught end of the Last Chapter stream back in November and noticed the announcement. Lurking on this forum there was speculation about tour and how the font of the date of the announcement resebmled the font from the game. So, I F5-ed their homepage on Monday and bang: Legacy of the Beast tour announced.

My first though was negative, as in: For fuck sake, this looks so lame... A tour based on a app/game, really? Ed Hunter had simillar concept but in the background of that one was return of Adrian and Bruce, so it can be forgived. But, when I saw the dates I was certainly impressed by the managemant. I can't remember the last time when Maiden announced all the dates (not considering double dates) for the tour on one day. Hats off to them. Usually, tour announcements took months or so, and remember while I was on official FC how unconvenient was it for some of the fans. You buy the ticket and few weeks later you find out they're closer to you, have gig on more approachable date, ticket was cheaper or the venue was better. Also, AFAIK, there wasn't a single leak even about the tour, let alone the dates. And there were 30+ of them! Usually we know at least a few dates and cities before the tour is announced, but not this time, so kudos to them!

Then came few positive thoughts. First, they're in my country again, I'll be on vacation then and ticket price here is still reasonable, so guess I'm going to see them again. Not to do anything with this topic, but at the same time I was lurking Pearl Jam forum for potential European dates. Long story short, they announced 13 dates ony and last time they were in Europe in 2014. Nevertheless, fans on the forum were ecstatic, so I guess we can only be thankful for Maiden visiting us so often, plenty and throughout the whole Europe.

Then I read the press release, got completely confused and my only 2 conlusions were (and still are) that there are 2 options for this tour.

Option A: They're planning something spectacular. Considering how well they kept the tour planning I only hope they're doing the same with the show preparations. The announcement only hinted the stage sets and setlist, but you can't really read anything from that. Also, Steve and somebody else usually throws in a couple of words in announcement, which is missing now. So, the whole deal about the gig can be something revolutionary, wheter it will be holograms, pyro, moving stage sets, army of Eddies or whatever. It will be something that we haven't seen before and it won't look rehashed. Considering setlist, I don't know. There'll be probably 4 or 5 songs that we heard on previous tour, 5-6 that we heard in last 10 years and 3 or43 song that haven't been played in a long time. Somehow, I also hope there'll be at least one new song, be it from the single from upcoming album (like Wildest Dreams) or just for the purposes of the show.

Option B: They've got so big, that at this point they can announce anything and it will be a success. People will just eat it up. So, just a few diffent backdrops, new walking Eddie, SBIT setlist with 1 or 2 new songs and that's it. The whole thing can be seen as Give me Ed tour 15 years later and if that is the case - bollocks. Early Days were aweseome, Somewhere Back in Time more so, Maiden England felt little repetetive and, considering time and place, announcing another clasic best of tour that will take at least 2 years around the world makes it generic and dull. Maybe just because of that, them fearing not knowing when the last bell will ring, they did this tour. Time is precious and going down in history with huge best of tour across the globe seems like a nice way to end the career, rather than trying something new that will have mixed opinions or promising something that they can't deliver and thus ruin their whole credibility (like AC/DC have done). Again, I hope this isn't the case and they do something we haven't seen before.

Another thing that puzzles me is the size of the tour. Now, they did occasional fill-ups between albums, but they weren't mammoth like this. Again, there are over 35 dates in Europe and information that the tour will continue in 2019. That either means NA or Bruce renews his pilot licence again. Except Book of Souls, USA haven't got a chunk of the new albums (Dance of Death, AMOLAD, The Final Frontier) so I guess they definitly hit USA and Canada as hard as Europe, considering the nature of the tour. Speaking of that, I know that they added a few second dates, and festivals will probably be sold out, but don't you think maybe they've overdone it, if they really planning on to come back in '20 with new album? In some of these places they'll be for a 2nd, 3rd or 4th time in a row maybe it isn't such a smart move to suffocate them if they plan to return soon. (I know Croatians are late buyers, but seeing that 2 months after announcement, almost whole venue is available is bit concerning. Maybe because Trieste close by distance and by date.)

All this considered I really hope it's option A: an amazing show, new stage set, pyro, new technologies, any song from the 90's that isn't FOTD and maybe at least 1 new song.
And kudos to whoever read this whole thing.

You could argue that the last time Maiden announced a full tour in one go was The Book of Souls tour 2017. All european shows at once and a little later the NA tour. But of course that didn't cover nearly as many countries as this years tour and no festivals.

It's Iron Maiden. It will be a great tour. I know they have their predictable habits, but pretty much every reunion tour has had some real substance, at least a couple of surprises. Taken as a whole, their live performances since 1999 have covered a pretty large selection of their catalogue. There aren't *too* many obvious (realistic) omissions of the like of Infinite Dreams and Icarus.

I was a bit perplexed when they announced this tour. Thought it sounded like a dumb idea to base a tour around a mobile phone game and oh look another tour where I can here the same predictable set list.

Then after a while I stopped and thought, hang on. I’m in my 40’s now and don’t party no where near as much as I used to. If iron maiden tour the same set list every year until they pack it in then it gives me and a couple of mates the chance to get pissed, reminisce about the good old days and listen to my favourite band and one of the greatest live bands ever play some of my favourite tunes. So what if they play the trooper and fear of the dark for the 1,000,000th time. I’ll still have a great time and when I get home me and the lads will crack open a few more bears and dig out some other live albums and play a few different songs and keep the party going.

Then sadly I’ll have to contend with a 2 day hangover reminding me I’m not in my 20’s anymore. Then it’s all about getting ready for the next maiden tour hopefully the following year.

At this stage of my life I’ve seen Maiden live so many times that I’ve heard all my favourites and a few surprises played live so right now they can just play whatever they want and I’ll still have a great time :)

I must admit I get faintly irritated by the folks who've seen Maiden so many times they feel qualified to complain about always hearing the same songs.

Nicer problems to have ...

I can't say I get irritated.

Frustrated maybe. But only with good intentions .....recognising how great the rest of the song catalogue is :)

Volt festival (Hungary) also do livestreams. Maiden played there before in 2016, but sadly the festival didn't get permission to stream the concert.
