This could be Dave Murray's big surprise.

It bothers me when they overhype stuff. I'm thinking slightly more pyros or an extra lightbulb.Nicko was also apparently hyping up the stage set at his drum shop opening event, so I imagine they've got something interesting cooked up on that front.
I thought it might quite cool to have the intro played off stage with some imagery going on on stage (if they do the hologram thing) then the band comes on when the song kicks in
Now I read it back maybe swapping Hallowed for Wickerman around would make a lot more sense!

Yes, it bothers me as well.
But what pisses me off is when they overhype the setlist, like they did on the previous tour. Bruce said that they would play a rare song and another hidden gem that would surprise people, and then it was Children of the Damned and Powerslave.
Do I love those songs? Yes, I do, but both were played in 2008/2009 - COTD being played in 2007 as well - and back then Bruce said the same thing about COTD -> "You guys are very lucky to hear this song, because it is very rare and we probably won't play it again".
To be fair, COTD is quite a rarity. You seem to forget that it was only played at a few gigs in 2002, 2007, and 2009. The last time it had been featured on a world tour was in 1986/1987!!!
I do not agree, my friend. While I love the song and loved to see it live (and Bruce simply nailed it in São Paulo), it was played during a whole summer tour in 2007 and then during a whole world tour in 2009 (SBIT).
Infinite Dreams is a rarity, because it's been 30 years they don't play it. Flight of Icarus is also a rarity. Still life. The Prisoner was a rarity when they played on ME (even though it was predictable). But no, not COTD, or at least not enough to justify his words.

I'm afraid that Bruce overhyped the tour, and that a lot of people have unrealistic expectations about it now.
I'm afraid that is always the case with some Maiden fans, isn't it?
As I said many, many pages ago: Bruce Dickinson is a performer and knows how to work the crowd. Everything he's said is sales tactics.

Bruce said the beginning of the show would lead to "social media madness", right?
How cool would it be for them to debut a brand-new Maiden song from a new album they've been working on but have kept completely in the shadows up to now?
Precisely. It's why bands always say "We're super excited about this new album".Same can be said about any artist being interviewed before a tour/album release. You want to grab people's attention and have them buying tickets/albums.
