K.K. DOWNING Says JUDAS PRIEST Should Have Considered Fans' Wishes When Deciding On GLENN TIPTON's Replacement For 'Firepower' Tour

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/k-...glenn-tiptons-replacement-for-firepower-tour/
I can imagine it going like this:

Judas Priest - We ask, you, the fans, who should replace Glenn? Send us an e-mail.

kennie1951@mail.com - Objectively, KK Downing.
kenbrexit@mail.com - KK Downing IMO, he's the best.
kknotdowning@mail.com - Bring back KK!!
kkmygod666@mail.com - Ken "KK" Downing is the best, bring him back you bastards!

etc.

K.K. DOWNING Was 'Disappointed' That JUDAS PRIEST 'Seemed To Have Picked A Lookalike' As His Replacement -> http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/k-...o-have-picked-a-lookalike-as-his-replacement/

"I've seen Richie play — he's obviously a very good player," K.K. said. "So I was disappointed that those guys seemed to have picked a lookalike with Richie — with the long blond hair, with clothes like mine, guitars like mine, and all of that. I kind of had an understanding of that, and I suppose, in a way, it's a compliment, really. But I thought, in all fairness to Richie, to go out there and have this opportunity as himself and as his own person, I thought, would have been better for him."

K.K. does seem to have taken issue, however, with Richie discussing publicity the reasons for Downing's exit from PRIEST. "I think it's off the mark, really, for Richie to make comments about me; he's playing my songs and my riffs and all that, and it's a great opportunity for him," K.K. said. "And I think he'd be best to leave it there, really, until we eventually get to have a meet and a chat and maybe we can have a beer together and it's all good. Because I don't want this to continue the way that it is. I would like to go forward, whatever's happened."

+ a really interesting interview with him -> https://www.rollingstone.com/music/...lks-heavy-metal-new-book-jimi-hendrix-728477/

Richie should just shave his hair off and play ugly guitars instead, or else KK will hire Bazza to sue Richie for image theft.

K.K. is not doing himself good favours if he wishes to return someday.

Not sure if Priest went for a lookalike. The man was obviously picked for his playing (as well), but the valid criticism (imo) is not in the picking. It is rather in how Faulkner visually manifested himself (or was forced to; however it happened).

So I find this a fair comment:

In Priest he has indeed looked more like K.K. than himself. I've seen him with Lauren Harris and that had less K.K. Different guitar, different clothes.

So true. Anyway, who in Priest would want such a bitter man back in the band? It is not as if they are suddenly going to become an arena headliner band all around the world if they bring him back, is it?

I definitely recommend checking out the whole interview. Some nice Priest history in there and some bits about Maiden as well. KK comes off better than he has in the print interviews, although he does seem bitter about a lot of things. He also skirts around a lot of questions. I think that’s more natural rambling than anything intentional though. Good thing he is using a ghostwriter or else the book would probably be a mess.

The stuff about Glenn is interesting. This interview really makes it seem like Glenn was KK’s primary reason for leaving or there’s at least a ton of resentment aimed at Glenn. In the end he says that the rest of the band may not have a choice when it comes to managerial decisions (like KK returning) and implies that there’s a conflict of interest because Glenn and the manager are romantically involved.

I actually think there’s probably some truth to the management stuff. I even suggested in this thread that the management probably has a firm grip on the band activities, including whether or not they continue touring. Whether Glenn is actively preventing KK from being asked to return through Jayne is more questionable, but I wouldn’t be surprised. I still think there’s a lot that isn’t being said though.

It would be interesting to see KK do something with Ripper. Sounds like the two are still close.
