Re: Judas Priest Survivor: Nostradamus disc 1 round 6 (Jan 23-25)
I am already listening to the 2nd disc and I must stress that I am in awe of 2 songs, especially the 2nd I am going to mention.
Alone
Future of Mankind
These songs are the two longest songs of the whole album but possess qualities that I miss in most other tracks.
The songs grab me by the throat (I want to sing along), nice guitar work (riffs, solos, calmer moments), but above all: Great vocal lines, Halford is at his very best here, and presents us with a convincing delivery.
In "Alone" there's a nice groove, the song starts with a classic intro, but later the more untypical acoustic guitars arrive. A very nice combination of old and new. Like in the next track, the vocals give the song a lot of dimension, and the melody rules.
The final (and longest) track “Future of Mankind” is my favourite.
I can’t say enough how much I like those vocals in the chorus. This range is Halford at his best, imo. Stunning, one of the best choruses Priest have ever done!

Reveals what must be done
To manifest through time
Also this song features the best solos, or at least they have the most “feel” (esp. the one that starts from 4.22).
Reflecting on the whole album:
It is too long. It would have been better if it was one disc, with only the best songs.
The funny thing is: in this Survivor this doesn't matter a dime, because it's all about separate songs.
