ISIS Thread

@The Flash:  I dunno what makes trailers so offensive to you...

Trailers themselves don't. Trying to cash in on a tragedy does. It's not a fucking art project. You see the dislikes on the video? They didn't come out of nowhere. Read the comments. Thousands of people are complaining about the same thing. You might not see it that way but there's nothing to facepalm here.

You see ads on tv here for exclusive interviews all the time. I don't see how this is any different, other than the very odd belief that news outlets shouldn't try to draw attention to, you know...news.

There's no such belief on my part. I made the specification clear by saying "interview like this". I don't think this is just some ordinary exclusive interview. And putting "Trailer" in the title is very tactless. That's sensationalizing the dramatic effect a tragedy has. It's a teaser. You don't "tease" people to watch an interview that covers a tragedy. They did change it themselves afterwards.

I'm with Flash here mostly, it seems insensitive. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, because it might also be a statement that an interview is coming soon, but it takes its time, for impatient people. But it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

I guess it comes off as exploiting the tragedy to generate hype + views. Remember also that sponsored youtube channels get paid for views and ad clicks. Having a trailer for the interview doubles their revenue. Just something to think about. So I get where Flash is coming from.

Have to admit I'm not 100% comfortable with it. Bearing in mind it's a tragedy that's still fresh in everyone's mind, and public expressions of mourning were going on as recently last week, it would have come across a lot better if they'd just run the interview rather than so obviously building hype over a number of days to net more viewers.

I don't get the issue with the promo ... it seemed to simply announce this was coming so people would know about it. The actual interview I thought was well done (so far, half way through it so far).

Just horrible

Germany is going to send fighting units to Syria, only the third time since WWII that they send fighting units to a foreign land (after Kosovo and Afghanistan).

Can this thread be renamed to "World conflicts concerning ISIS / terrorism" thread or something like that. Just a thought :)

Dumb, headless, ill-prepared and dangerous. If some lunatic blows up a tube I take or fires aimlessly into a crowd I'm in, it will be because of this. Thanks, Merkel.

UK debating it tonight too. I think it will go ahead. But as above, I don't think the overall strategy is at all clear, and the Government is really being questioned strongly by politicians from all parties who want more information and assurances. If it goes ahead the RAF will send 16 aircraft.

Here we go again

The female shooter in Wednesday's massacre in San Bernardino, Calif., pledged allegiance to the head of the Islamic State, multiple reports say — providing the clearest evidence yet that the attackers were linked to Islamic terrorist groups.

Citing three officials familiar with the investigation on Friday, CNN reported that the female shooter, Tashfeen Malik, posted a message on Facebook supporting ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. NBC News, the AP and the New York Times also reported that Malik posted a statement of support for the leader.
