My point was I have listened to NPFTD to know (in my opinion that is) that there is little if anything redeeming about this album. I can tolerate Run Silent, Run Deep, but this is one album that gets worse and worse everytime I try and listen to it.

To the point re: I must have liked it. No, not really. Remember back in 1990 you could not download the album weeks before it was released. You had to wait for it to come out and then listen to it. I would have bought it anyway, but I was hugely disappointed when it came out, after being hugely disappointed by Tatooed Millionnaire. Those were dark times.

Finally, I think Phantom is a top 5 Maiden song, nothing on NPFTD even come close to my top 50.

Dark times where you live, maybe? Not here. Anyway, the album did pretty well compared to some later ones.

Foro, you are absolutely right. In 1990 we had no idea what dark times were ahead!

Fear of the Dark did even do better. :)

After that the sales went downhill (especially) in the States...

I like FOTD better than NPFTD, but I would have preferred if both were replaced by one 8 or 10 song album with the best tracks from each.

Of course (opens can of worms) which 8 or 10 tracks?

Although in that world I would reckon the saga of Charlotte the Harlot would only be 2 songs long.

What if we get rid of Tailgunner, Enema, Fates, Ass_Ass_In, Hooks, at once ??
The gap with the rest is remarkable, there is a serious evidence that it'll be a waste of time if we won't  :D

Except for Holy Smoke, I really like the remaining songs from NPFTD - and I think Fates Warning went too fast. But still, the 10 songs that survived from the 1980-1988 albums are so awesome that being really good just doesn't cut it.

Off you go, Holy Smoke, No Prayer and Run Silent Run Deep.
