Re: Iron Maiden Survivor, series 3: Piece Of Mind round 8 (Aug 31 - Sep 2)

I must say, I've been quite surprised at the votes accumulated by "The Trooper" lately. Sure, I've been voting against it - because I think it's Maiden's most overrated song. Way too simple for a prog fan like me, and the studio version I find boring (though I will confess it's an entirely different matter live).

But I never expected so many people to agree with me (though you guys might have different reasons). I thought more of you would call it a top 10 song; I always expected to be the lone vote against it. I always expected it to be safe.

But the way things have been going, it might not even survive the Powerslave series coming up...

Re: Iron Maiden Survivor, series 3: Piece Of Mind round 8 (Aug 31 - Sep 2)

We'll see. It could survive a few Powerslave songs.

Together with HBTN, this is the song I never can get enough of when I see Maiden live.
I find The Trooper one of Maiden's best combinations of aggression and catchiness. Awesome bass and one of Bruce's better performances in his career.

Compared to many of the others songs which are still alive and kicking in this poll: I find the solos of The Trooper more memorable.

Re: Iron Maiden Survivor, series 3: Piece Of Mind round 8 (Aug 31 - Sep 2)

I agree with Forostar, I find The Trooper to be one of the finest Maiden songs, a trademark song even and it doesn't seem to get boring (unlike RTTH, NOTB and FOTD).

What I'm surprised at is that two more people besides me voted for Phantom of the Opera. I'm also a prog fan, but I can't stand Di Anno's vocals, I can't stand the guitar sound, I can't stand the overall production. To each his own, I suppose.

As for the Powerslave series, I think the that first ones to go will be the "middle four" from Powerslave.

Re: Iron Maiden Survivor, series 3: Piece Of Mind round 8 (Aug 31 - Sep 2)

I also cherish The Trooper because in the last two decades Maiden has failed to make short songs (let's say, less than 5 minutes) of such grabbing quality. From the nineties era I like several nice ones, and the current line-up made The Wicker Man, but none come even close to the awesomeness of The Trooper.

Who knows. There's one song I will not vote for though.

Powerslave has joined the battle; Round 4.1 has now begun.

Remember Tomorrow, Where Eagles Dare, Flash Of The Blade

Re: Iron Maiden Survivor, series 4: Powerslave round 1 (Sep 2-4)

Trooper, Blade, Duellists.

Trooper is pretty much dull on studio, especially after live versions featuring three guitars, kickass vocal and drum performance.
Out of four fillers from Fillerslave i like Back In The Village and Losferwords better.

Re: Iron Maiden Survivor, series 4: Powerslave round 1 (Sep 2-4)

The Trooper rules so much on studio.

Going to start a civil movement right now: "Save the Trooper" from the claws of the MaidenFans crazyness.  :D
