And I wasn't specifically singling you out, Whooten, just the tendency for us to get the same results when it comes to the Top Ten. From what I remember, we're potentially looking at an exact duplicate of the previous Maiden survivor Top Ten, minus Wasted Years. Which says something for the quality of those songs, but it's still a drag to see some overhyped material like Alex and CSIT continue to make the finals while we immediately cast aside newer, better material (including some of what you mentioned).

I completely agree. But someone has to save Empire and TBOS.

Why? I don't find either better than Relevations.
I would dump all post 1990 stuff apart from SOTC, BTATS and IESF before even looking at 1980s songs listed above.

If stuff like Starblind or The Legacy got dumped there's really no more contest here - reunion vs. old - for me.
Relevations has one of the best rock guitar solo sections I ever heard.

I think it just comes down to (and this is just my opinion) that views on the older songs are more congealed. Meaning there are clearer lines between the "best" songs of the 80s and ones that get cut in the first round. It seems opinions on the 2000+ material differ more widely.

Bang on.

Also, this is the biggest farce that's ever farced. Score another survivor for the Play Classics crowd]

Doesn't help that all of my favorite Reunion era songs except the two from Dance of Death and Brighter Than a Thousand Suns got eliminated earlier. I'd easily place Starblind in my Top 5 and would've preferred to keep The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg and Lord of Light in the game at this stage.

Absolutely. Though I don't agree with those songs in particular, I definitely feel like we've lost a majority of the incredible reunion songs already.

I think Whooten nailed it. There's next to none consensus on Reunion era, while 80s has a pretty distinct one. You have some that drop in and out, but many of the songs are mainstays.

I know for a fact that there are some people here who'd rate Starblind, Avalon and Mother of Mercy as (or among) their least favorites on TFF while these are my personal favorites. This almost never happens when the album at hand is, say, Powerslave. It's pretty much impossible to find someone that favors "the rest" over all of Rime, Powerslave, Aces High and 23:58. Same with Somewhere in Time, almost impossible to find someone who'd not place at least one of ATG, CSIT or Wasted Years among their favorites. Same applies to The Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.

Yeah, I think that's a fair assessment. Which is unfortunate, because what that says to me is that the reunion albums are far more consistent than the older albums.

Can someone explain to me why Seventh Son is so popular other than the final couple of minutes (which are amazing).
