The Longest Day, For the Greater Good of God, The Legacy, Out of the Shadows and Brighter than a thousand Suns are the best songs of AMOLAD and The Longest Day would be the 1st or 2nd best of that album. To me!
The best song on that album is Lord of Light
The only not so good song is Different World

The best song on AMOLAD is The Legacy, by far. An absolute masterpiece in Maiden's discography, and a certain Top-10 entry. OOTS and TLD are the two weakest songs on that album, the third one being The Pilgrim.

And then the second verse is very humdrum.

Do you mean this part?

The rising dead, faces bloated torn
They are relieved, the living wait their turn
Your number's up, the bullet's got your name
You still go on, to hell and back again
Valhalla waits, valkyries rise and fall
The warrior tombs, lie open for us all
A ghostly hand reaches through the veil
Blood and sand, we will prevail

Utterly brilliant if you ask me! :edmetal:

Eventually all posts here turn into discussion about the long chorus of ‘The Longest Day’.

What I love about Out of the Shadows is the guitar flourishes through out the song, it's uncommon for Maiden and something I really enjoy. The chorus is mighty fine too. Ohh, that ending is sweet. Really good song that.

Bruce's best lyric (the entire song) . Maybe.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the verse and pre-chorus to TLD is a tremendous amount of buildup and a great payoff to that. But everything after and including the chorus is more or less boring.

It's meaningless. It could apply to any war song. Sabaton could sing that and it would make sense in almost any track.

If Sabaton was Iron Maiden:

Night Witches:
