Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

TBOS flies by for me despite the length. It’s one of my most played Maiden albums and if the band can top this, then they’re truly a force to be reckoned with.
It should; it's "only" 74 minutes long without Empire of the Clouds, which almost feels like a bonus on top of the usual Maiden reunion era album length.

I had a dream about the next Maiden album last night (and another one involving Pennywise, but that's another story). On it was an epic, penned by Smith/Gers/Harris.

It got me thinking, would that be entirely outside the realm of possibility? What if Steve went to Adrian first, heard some of his ideas then went to Janick to hear his ideas and noticed that two of their ideas worked together?

In theory, I'd say why not. Why the heck can't different ideas by different people be combined?

Usually, if there is a third person then Bruce is one of them. Three non-singers working on a song is highly unlikely, unless it is a silly b-side.

And yeah, in Maiden, there is the maximum of only one guitarist contributing to a particular album song.

Exactly. I know the guitarists always say they don't write together because they'd "just end up jamming" (or words to that effect), but if an outsider like Bruce or Steve thought their music worked together, why the heck not, as you say?

I don't know whether any of them come to the band with fully formed song ideas or not. Adrian is maybe the most likely to do so, I'd guess Dave doesn't as Steve says he takes the best of Daves ideas and puts them together. Janick has mentioned before (for "Dance of Death", I believe) that he had the music and the concept of the song then Steve wrote the lyrics, though I'm not sure whether that applies to every other song he has written.

I think there is a rivalry between Janick & Adrian that will always prevent that from happening.

I wouldn't say there is a rivalry between any of them. Bear in mind Adrian and Dave have never written together, and Janick and Dave only the once ("Virus").

I don’t think songwriting is much of a group effort in Maiden unless it has to be. My general understanding of the process is that the guitarists write their own songs or riffs, present them to the band, and then usually pair off with either Steve or Bruce (very rarely both) to arrange and complete the song.

Steve and Bruce act as the glue, if you will, the piece of the puzzle that make every song definitively “Maiden”.

I bet that Janick will write again a song that starts with a acoustic guitar part/intro and outro, like he does it since the FOTD album on every album.

Here are some ideas for a song titles that I think are kinda cool:

1) The Darkness Returns
2) Valley Of The Kings
3) Guardians Of The Tomb
4) Pyramid Of The Sun/The Secret Of The Pyramid - great song titles for Powerslave or TBOS album.

5) The Shadow Realm
6) A Wizard's Tale
7) Pharaoh's Curse
8) The Sacred Bird

Well, it seems that this is going to be a conceptual album about Ancient Egypt, but I like that theme a lot.

bonus:

9) The Ghost Knight

What you think about this @Diesel 11 ?

Yeah, the problem is that Iron Maiden's ability to write songs and come up with titles is literally unmatched by any artist. I have no clue how to crack into their minds and figure out how it's done; whenever a non-Maiden member (i.e. many people on this forum) try to come up with song titles Maiden could do, they don't feel Maiden-esque at all. That doesn't feel like Maiden, my stuff doesn't feel like Maiden, they'll only feel like Maiden when Maiden releases the next album.

At the moment, I can think of a thousand song titles, lol.... here are two more:

9) The Ghost Knight
10) Prison Break (I'm a big fan of the serial anyway) What you think about this @Diesel 11 ? ;)
Really cool titles. I love that kind of stuff.

Much too many "of"s in the titles, in my opinion. It looks like the tracklist of Rhapsody's first album. ;)

Well, these were a song titles about theme(s) that I like and would like to see them in a song - I made it for fun and I also think that maybe they don't feel Maiden-esque at all. For example, when I saw the song titles for AMOLAD I also thought that these are kinda strange song titles, I dunno, that's how I feel the things.

I asked you if you like them, because I have noticed that you come up with some cool song titles or ideas for a setlsit, stage design, album covers etc... ;)

I have not paid attention to this, but I think these are ''bloody'' good song titles... ;) Saxon have 3 songs with that titles from my list - how strange is that.

I completely get where you're coming from. I think they'd be cool, but I'm not sure if they'd work well with Maiden. Another band could probably nail them though. :)
