I've a vague memory of reading somewhere that Virus probably wasn't written by all of them but that the names were added to show they all agreed with the lyrics. I'm sceptical about this though as you would think if that was the case Nicko would be creditted too.

The earliest we can expect the new and, most probably, ultimate album from Iron Maiden is 2020; they will finish the LOTB tour next year, take some time off and record the album. Then probably 2021-22 final tour

I mean, I've read that Empire of the Clouds actually had a significant contribution by Nicko on it through way of arrangement help but that doesn't mean it's true. There's always gonna be songwriting credits conspiracies out there. The likely explanation for Virus is that Steve took a bunch of riffs and ideas from Janick and Davey and jammed them together awkwardly with lyrics by Blaze on top. It certainly sounds like it.

My memory of it was it was an interview around the release of Virus and the question was put to steve that it was unusual for a song to have 4 writers and he answered well we just put everyone's name down to show we all agreed with the lyrics. I agree with you that the certainly seem like Blazes lyrics.
It may have been on an episode that Headbangers Ball did around the time BOTB was released, I might see if I can dig it out. Or I might just be imagining the whole thing.
