Hmm, if that’s true, then maybe Steve has entered ‘seize the day’ mode. Maybe he sees no point in stressing out for several months while putting together a new Maiden album. It might be better to enjoy life—and make some more money along the way.

I think of all the reasons this js basically it: more fun to play shows and earns them $£€

They have to spend months together to make an album?
But somehow spending months on the road is totally different and not a problem.

sadly not because the new albums don’t really generate serious profit anymore due to streaming.

My other concern is that Maiden accidentally proved to themselves with Senjutsu that they are in a fixed groove / aka a rut when it comes to composing new music. High quality still but using an established set of templates for decades now. And this makes another album feel like a chore rather than a joy… speculation on my part only.

Wish they were excited by using Simon in the studio for a change of pace (literally)

Recording and publishing new music is nothing short of an investment in PR for touring it live. No profits from sales at the level the band could be satisfied with, even Maiden's status.

There's a large amount of projection there in the chore/joy comment.

Of course it’s totally different.

Every gig they do on the road they get paid for. They don’t get paid anything to sit in a recording studio for a few months writing and recording, in fact it costs them to do this.

It makes no sense, that's their preferred approach (since 2000 or 2006), plus they can always change their style a bit, return to the roots to say, and Simon could bring something new, they just don't seem as enthusiastic, unfortunately. With Nicko in the band it probably would have been the same. If Adrian and Steve announce some plans for next year with their solo projects, it would be a bit harder for the band to work around and that would show their preferences now. They know the hits will always be more popular live, no matter what.
