Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

Sorry, but what is so special about hearing OTGDY? To me it is a good song but not great, not something I crave to hear live. But as I see, lot of people want to hear it. Is it because it really is so great or is it because Steve randomly mentioned it (I don't remember that people were crazy about it before that) or is it just because it hasn't been played live? Kinda like Sun and Steel, out of nowhere people believe it should be played live. Was not a singel, probably 6th-7th song in terms of popularity, quality. And I would say OTGDY is same, also maybe 6th (or 7th) best song on SSOASS. So what's the deal?
Exactly the point. As I said it wasn't a success, it wasn't popular, it wasn't a single that they've not been playing since decades (like when they unearthed Flight of Icarus), it wasn't the album's big piece that somehow failed to make its way into the setlist (like Alexander). There simply is no reason why they should play it out of nowhere, unless to make a gift to die-hard fans.

But, matter of fact, tours aren't (or very, very rarely, and even if so, only partly, are) planned with die-hard fans in mind. As I also said, they could have played the whole SSOASS back in 2012-14. That would have been the one and only logical reason to include OTGDY in a setlist. But they didn't, so bye-bye OTGDY.

It's a great song with one of the best steve bass parts in the middle, great hook and chorus. lyrics with a humane message and a simple but bitter philosophy. I always remember this song after an early death of a good person. if a band like metallica, rush, priest, cure, dream theater (whom are big bands too but play most of their songs - not just the big hits) has a song like this they would play it hundred times. so as fans, of course we would like to hear this one over the over-played hits.

I don't really have much of an opinion on the topic, but OTGDY is miles better than ATG. Apples and oranges since the only thing in common between the two is they're both the last track on their respective albums, but it's not exactly like ATG vs. SSOASS is going to end up as anything short of a complete curbstomp. It's such a shame in a way ATG was the song the fans latched onto and mystified since I'd rather had OTGDY instead.

Pretty much matches my thoughts perfectly on the whole OTGDY live thing, give me TTLBLAH any day .
Well, OTGDY was featured on Miami Vice once…
That`s really confused the whole thing now, if it appeared on one of the coolest cop shows of all time even for a few seconds then maybe it deserves it`s moment live after all. :notworthy:
