Iron Maiden Covers

"Previously unreleased cover version from the Essex synthpop combo which Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris demanded was not released. Paul Di'anno tells the story on episode 23 of the podcast at https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast..."

What's this story about?

The podcaster seems a bit out of his mind, and I can’t find any independent corroboration of the cover, so it may just be a really convincing fake.

Here’s the podcast, cued up to the Depeche Mode part: https://wimp.buzzsprout.com/894376/4645994-album-review-special-killers?t=398

The bass is too good for Speak and Spell era Depeche Mode and vocalist sounds like latter era. At 0:36 this is not how Dave Gahan sounded in soft dynamics in 1981.

Fake, boo.

WIMP

Steve Harris pulled an appearance of Maiden on the Muppet Show

I hope this is someone having a laugh because if not they have serious issues.

also you can hear some of the same Brummie inflections in "Di'Anno's" voice that Wayne's accent has, e.g. "picked up boi"

A Finnish Iron Maiden podcast duo (called "Viikonloppusoturit" - translates directly to "Weekend Warriors") made rather neat cover of Deja-Vu, turning it to a melancholic country song about a guy who's been kicked out from home by his partner, but fortunately he finds comfort from a familiar, local bar... After all, he's the most famous "beermouth" (Kaljasuu) there!

I'm just thinking.... what did I do?
Someone next to me is singing: "the evil that men do!"

If you insist…

This can't be real.

EDIT: I listened to the podcast from which this claim originated (Wayne's Iron Maiden Podcast) and it's an obvious parody with a silly impression of Paul Di'Anno talking about how Depeche Mode covered Maiden and Steve somehow covered it up. The guy who does it is actually sort of funny but the youtube clip makes the claim with a straight face.

His fake Di'Anno interview tells a story of Paul and Clive out dancing one night to Human League. lol
