I can see his point, The X Factor comfortably smashing Killers would have been a heresy when I first got into the band, and as what looks like happening now, a few of the recent albums will comfortably beat Iron Maiden, which again when I was young there was a significant proportion of fans and critics who would swear the first album was still the best. There's definitely been a swing of appreciation away from straightforward rockers and commercial hits towards the stuff they do now, I'm not saying the stuff they do now will win any polls but it's appreciated more than it used to be. I couldn't imagine anyone preferring Afraid to Shoot Strangers to Sanctuary or Sign of the Cross to Run to the Hills in the 90's but it seems that some do these days
