Iced Earth

Declaration Day is good. If the album was just an EP featuring Declaration Day and Gettysburg, it would rank among Iced Earth's greatest.

Only song I'm not that fond of is When The Eagle Cries. Waterloo's not that brilliant either. The rest is top notch.
 
I can't find anything top notch on Glorious Burden. The way I see it, the band started to decline with Horror Show, hit rock bottom with Glorious Burden, got on their feet again with the two Something Wicked albums, hit rock bottom again with Dystopia but for some reason went back to brilliance with Plagues.
 
IMO Glorious Burden's main problem (beyond not having Barlow as a singer :P) is complete lack of any emotional depth apart from Gettysburg trilogy... Songs are mostly OK but kinda robotic... idk. Something Wicked are good albums but have way too many interludes... most of the real songs are good, and Crucible is a better album.
 
You know guys, I learned something today: when it comes to Iced Earth, everyone has radically different opinions about the definition of "good".

This is my biggest problem with everything after Something Wicked, Horror Show included.
 
I completely agree. Iced Earth has always done stupid, bro-humor marketing like this on their t-shirts and it's just completely depressing.

Other shirts I've seen throughout the years are "Fuck Posers", "Fuck Yo Couch", and "Meat. Metal. Whiskey."

It's so infantile and honestly makes me dislike the band more and more each time I see new "clever saying" shirt.
 
Ah yes, I do remember when I saw Maiden in 2002, they had a shirt that said, "Eddie. Beer. Bitches."

And one cannot forget Dream Theater's famous Train Of Thought tour shirt which read, "Take Me As I Am, Or Get the Fuck Out!"

Those shirts are stupid. At least it matches the musical joke IE has become these days. :D
 
hey hey, let's not knock on IE just because they have a few lame shirts, yes, I agree, the "Poop, Even Hot Chicks Do It" one is a bit juvenile, I would expect that from Blink 182 but not IE... but so what, they're still a great band, IMO anyway... Maybe their newer stuff isn't as good as their old late 90s stuff, but I still enjoy it, well ehr, I enjoyed Dystopia, Plagues of Babylon is kinda ok.. but I like most of the rest of their stuff, aside from "The Glorious Burden", that album was too cheesy-sounding, other than the songs "Valley Forge" and "Atilla"

Check out Matt Barlow's new band Ashes of Ares, they sound like older Iced Earth
 
Check out Judas Priest, they're a band that Ripper Owens sang for before he joined Iced Earth! Kind of sounds like Iced Earth but with more rock 'n' roll!

I also don't think Ashes of Ares sounds much like IE. Same genre, sure, but they're not thrashy enough to be old IE and not power metal stock enough to be new IE.
 
Has anyone heard any news of Iced Earth lately? There have been a couple of posts on Facebook in the past few months, but no actual news about what they're up to. When Schaffer had his operation last summer, they said they were planning a tour of North America. And then it went quiet....
