Iced Earth

This album is probably one of the (if not THE) best collection of guitar riffs ever.

It is excellent in that respect, but I have to say that Alice in Hell by Annihilator tops it.

Per, I hadn't listened to that much since the early '90's.... I have to say that due to you speaking highly of it to me, I've re-opened my mind to it. I'd agree, Alice In Hell is pretty damn good.

Yes, Waters and Schaffer are both excellent rhythm guitarists. I don't own a single Annihilator album though.
I think the vocals scared me off most of the times. I should give it another chance.

Well, I listened to Stormrider. I think I need to give it another listen as I really don't understand how it's better the Burnt Offerings.

What should I listen to next: The Glorious Burden or Something Wicked This Way Comes?

It's not. ;)

Depends, are you going to listen to Glorious Burden anyway? Then listen to it now, so you've got it done with and have a monster of an album ahead of you.

The order of listening is not important. More important is that you shouldn't forget anything, that is: if you want to give an artist a fair chance.

Glorious Burden is a mediocre album ; The first CD can be the worst Iced Earth sole CD.
The second CD consists only of the huge Gettysburg -one of the best metal tracks ever.
As Perun said recently should they had released the second CD only, everything would have been fine!

My best Earth album is 'Something Wicked...' which you maybe should let it third to the end (before the 2 recent ones)

Listening to Something Wicked again. Wow, it's an amazing album, I think it's my favorite so far. Maybe.
Iced Earth are slowly becoming a favorite of mine.

I'm gonna disagree with you. But it's just personal preference anyway so no point in arguing.  :D

Nothing against Owens though. I admire his voice and I find his performance in Gettysburg
one of the most concussive performances in metal history.

I think the problems with most of The Glorious Burden's first disc had less to do with Owens and more with lazy songwriting. As much as I love Matt Barlow, I can't imagine him redeeming the weaker songs off the album.

I'd even go further: I doubt if Barlow could have made Declaration Day (and Gettysburg) as great as Owens did.

The song was crap to begin with, though.
I like the music. The lyrics are crap and I don't like the chorus at all. The rest is great though: Especially the bridge.

The only songs I replay from Glorious Burden are Attila, Waterloo and of course the Gettysburg Epic. The rest could come or go, except for When the Eagle Cries... that's just musical abortion...

Me too. I hope that Schaffer stops messing with politics and starts making music. Really. I want a new Iced Earth album.
