Iced Earth

Speaking of Painkiller, my friend and I have been playing Rock Band 2 and I was VERY happy to see many Metal tracks under "challenging" a big bulk of them under "Nightmare" and ALL of the "Impossible" tracks :D I've been playing drums and some of these songs are fucking hard even on easy. Granted I play like once every two weeks, so not like I get a lot of practice. Dream Theater's Panic Attack is a work out, and Priest's Painkiller is the hardest track of the entire game! Well, according to their rankings anyway.

In real life, Panic Attack is harder on everything but vocals.

ICED EARTH -THE RECKONING

The_Reckoning_%28song%29_cover.jpg

Just noticed that this single's cover contains two clear metal references :
1. The Trooper  Eddie /IM
2. Don't Tread On Me flag /Metallica

The Don't Tread On Me flag was the flag used during the American Revolution. It has nothing to do with Metallica.

With all respect no_5, but that was really a kind of "I just invented the wheel" discovery. It has been discovered about 4 times now, and you might be no 5, no_5.  :P

Last time, the brilliant Number_Six did the discovery, in this very same topic. Check his post and the reactions, if you like.

Mine:

It's clearly a tribute to Iron Maiden. Of course it's inspired, and this cover probably functions as a nostalgic reference.

Iron Maiden was one the biggest inspirations for Schaffer, and I also think that he is a great admirer of the "Steve Harris attitude": "If you don't like the way we do things, well, just fuck off". Schaffer doesn't give up as easily, like 'Arry, no matter what people think or say.

More IM relations:

-Schaffer played "The Trooper" live with Demons & Wizards
-IE added a "The Trooper" ending to "Violate", which you can check on Alive in Athens
-IE covered and played live "Transylvania"
-IE covered "The Number Of The Beast"
-IE covered "Hallowed Be Thy Name"

It might be fair to know what a band has done, before mentioning the words "rip off".

I'd say re-inventing the steel  :P
Seriously, it was a very amousing post, especially the info regarding my fellow no6, thanks a lot for this  :ok:

I don't agree mate ; American Revolution took place almost 100 years before Gettysbourg-
exept if Union used to wave this flag during civil war -which I don't know.

Maybe is a double reference.

The uniforms on the single cover are clearly and indisputably Revolution-era British and American. There is no chance in hell that these are any uniforms other than those. They are certainly and inarguably not in any kind of relation to the Battle of Gettysburg. The "Don't Tread On Me" flag was waved during the Revolutionary War, hence depicting an American soldier waving said flag in a battle that is clearly set in the Revolutionary War is a no-brainer. Saying that is a reference to Metallica is like saying a picture of the Statue of Liberty is a reference to Planet of the Apes.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if it was meant as a double reference like no_5 said.  Probably the main reason was the American Revolution, but a little tribute to Metallica on the way doesn't seem unlikely either.

Not to mention the song from - The Reckoning - is certainly inspired by the Revolutionary War.

Ten more days and I'm off to see Saxon and Iced Earth!  :ok:
Now that's what I call a lineup.

Alright. That high-pitched falsetto Ripper does is painful to my ears. He is a decent singer, but it really does get annoying at times. I can't stand it when an entire song is sung in falsetto. Good for you that you like it, but I don't.

Friday, 13. February, Huxley's Neue Welt. Don't have the ticket yet, but will get it next week.
