Somehow, I have the feeling that Jon makes the same post every year...

Get Dave Abell back!!!

ICED EARTH - “Slave To The Dark – The Century Media Years” box-set & album reissues out in February 2008! 14.02.2008

As various false information has been spread concerning the ICED EARTH reissues and box-set due to be released via Century Media this month, it is time to set the record straight.

“Slave To The Dark – The Century Media Years” is the title of the luxurious ICED EARTH box-set containing everything the legendary power metal act released via its former label home. Garnered with marvellous artwork by Leo Hao (Blind Guardian, Nocturnal Rites etc.) and ennobled with glossy print and embossing, the set consists of 14 CDs plus one DVD and offers you a total of 145 tracks (!!!) including all original album tracks as well as rarities and previously unreleased material.

CD 1: “Iced Earth”
CD 2: “Night Of The Stormrider” (+1 live bonus track)
CD 3+4: “Burnt Offerings” (plus entire album as alternative mix)
CD 5: “The Dark Saga” (+ 2 previously unreleased bonus tracks)
CD 6+7: “Days Of Purgatory”
CD 8: “Something Wicked This Way Comes” (+ 3 bonus tracks)
CD 9+10: “Enter The Realm Of The Gods”
(“Enter The Realm” Demo + “Tribute To The Gods” album)
CD 11-13: “Alive In Athens” (+1 bonus track)
CD 14: “Horror Show” (+ 1 bonus track)
DVD: “Alive In Athens”

All CDs have been redesigned as lavish gatefold-vinyl replicas with enhanced artwork and thus “Slave To The Dark – The Century Media Years” is the best chance to get all the classic ICED EARTH albums in one comprehensive box.

To allow you to purchase only certain albums from this collection, Century Media will also separately release all of the aforementioned albums including the particular bonuses.

The “Slave To The Dark – The Century Media Years” box-set & all reissues will be released on the following dates:

GERMANY / AUSTRIA / SWITZERLAND / BENELUX / ITALY: Friday, February 22, 2008.
UK / FRANCE / DENMARK / NORWAY / REST OF EUROPE: Monday, February 25, 2008.
SPAIN / PORTUGAL: Tuesday, February 26, 2008.
SWEDEN / FINLAND / HUNGARY: Wednesday, February 27, 2008.

Until now, I only bought Burnt Offerings, because I was curious for the alternative mix. I didn't hear it all yet, but until now I haven't heard much difference. I like the CD's! Like little black LP's (both sides of the discs are black)!

Looks cool, I might actually get it since I have none of Iced Earth's older material, just the Barlow era and Alive in Athens as CDs.

Shame the band's not coming to Scandinavia for festivals, though.

Shame the band's not supporting Maiden on their 2nd leg.  Would've been a great way to garner support in NA.

[sub]And would've been a great way for me to see my 2nd favourite band...[/sub]

Hard to say from such short samples, but I think Barlow sounds quite good.  The new song sounded like it could come from Framing Armageddon, I thought it sounded pretty interesting.  The Clouding was maybe better with Barlow, but A Charge to Keep and Setian Massacre were loads better with Ripper if you ask me.

I don't want to backstab the Ripper or anything -I still stand by what I said earlier, and I still think Framing Armageddon sounds great the way it is-, but somehow, I get the feeling it sounds the way it was supposed to sound now.

Holy crap. Barlow butchered them.  :o

Most Iced Earth fans would have your head for that.  :S

I don't like the vocal production again... but I think it is only Setian Massacre that suffers a bit with Barlow.

I am positively surprised to see these negative reactions. Finally some more appreciation for Ripper's abilities. I still have to hear those Barlow samples, but to be honest, I am not that eager.

Releasing these tracks seems like a strange, pointless move to fill time. It also shows a lack of inspiration, and a lack of respect towards Barlow's predecessor.

At least he's not completely re-recording TGB and FA a la Days of Purgatory.

And what's wrong with that? many bands rerecord stuff with the more "established" vocalist all the time.

I neither said it's right or wrong. It was an objective conclusion, if you like. :P

I've read, here, where some think it is offensive to the original singer to do that.

I dunno.  There are some songs that should be, maybe some that shouldn't.

Do you remember when Paul Rogers was going on tour with Queen and he and a website dedicated to helping pick songs that he would and wouldn't do?

Because it is a big "Fuck You!" to the guy/chick who sang on the original. At least if it's only a few years after the original release.
