I used to consider Horror Show my favorite but lately I've really been gravitating toward Burnt Offerings. It's one of those albums I can really get into, whether I'm in an IE mood or not, and it has a really cool dark vibe that they never explored again. Their following albums, especially Dark Saga, feel a little more standard to me. Not that they're bad, but BO is really something special. Stormrider is the same way, but it definitely isn't under appreciated the same way BO is.

Burnt Offerings kicks my ass. I remember when I was a kid and I was playing Doom 64 and there was a level called "Burnt Offerings" and I instantly thought of "Diary." I will have her... she's mine! *dun-dundundun-dun-dundundun*

When I first heard Burnt Offerings, I remember that the non-Alive in Athens tracks were great discoveries (I heard AiA first). Even if they've rarely or never seen the stage, and never featured on Days of Purgatory or on any other compilation, til this day I think that Burning Oasis and Creature Failure kick major ass. The dark atmosphere rules and Barlow's vocal contributions are among the best he's done.

Never been the biggest fan of Desert Rain. The other Stormrider songs have less causes for irritation on both studio and live version. On AiA there's some off-key thing going on (could be Tarnowski's guitar) and on the studio version that vocal harmony (backing vocal) sounds a bit nasal (stupid/weak). Also the build-up is kind a dragging on this song. Parts take longer before they change. Conclusion: more meh moments, and it fails to keep my attention 100% when I play this track.

Brainwashed is the second best song on their best album. Fact.
And imo it has one of the strongest riffs from the catalog at 3.01.
So much anger and threat can be heard from this album. The band went through a difficult time and it's as if you're hearing how they canalized that through the music.

Dark Saga is my least favorite Barlow album (not counting the disaster that is Crucible of Man). It has its good moments but compared to its predecessor it is severely lacking in power and some of the songs feel samey to me. The production also feels too contained/polished for my tastes. Of course this issue is solved by listening to AiA, which has all my favorites from this album anyway.
