Guns 'N' Roses

I saw these guys in 2017 at the London Stadium. Since then they have released about two new songs. I’m just genuinely curious if you mega fans out there that slightly pissed off at the fact that the band has not done anything for value since then?

Not me, I'm here for the classics. Although last time I saw them they played for 3hrs, did 6 or 8 covers and didn't play the banger that is My Michelle.

No need for new stuff, play all of Appetite plus a few others and let me go home after 2hrs, thank you very much.

I'm sort of glad they aren't bringing out a new full album. Just offcuts with Slash and Duff on. I'm interested in the classics. I'm not a die hard though just a realstic fan of a lot of old legecy bands. They can't all be like Maiden

I've saw them twice, and both times it was pretty much the same set with umpteen covers, and I'd be fairly certain this time it will be too.

I'm not going to break the bank to go to this, if I don't get standing then I'm out, to be honest, I nearly balked at 140 quid and probably should know better than to pay that much.

They haven't and they won't. All those "new" songs are actually leftovers from Chinese Democracy sessions in 1999-2002 with vocals from that time and only with instrumental parts rearranged by the new band.

It bothers me a little but not that much, I think most GN'R fans are actually interested in vault stuff like old concerts getting released. The most interesting thing that happened for GN'R fans since Slash came back was probably the leak of lots of demos from those early 2000s sessions in 2019 (the ones that are getting released now).

I got standing there now, 138, no queue.

Aye, it's my outer limit of what I'll pay, in fairness.

I only got to see GNR when they opened for Motley Crue on their Girls, Girls, Girls tour. 2 nights. Glad I went to both nights because the 2nd night Axel jumped down on a security guard during the second song and started fighting. It was a big scrum and the police took him out of the arena. They would not let him come back to finish the set.

Yes, they have been around together for almost ten years now, and yeah they have toured alot and actually pulled out tons of classic songs, and play for about three houts a night, that is brilliant. But I still did not go to their show this summer, they even played an hour away from me on my 40th birthday. Axl sound like Mickey on the few clips I’ve seen on the net. Regarding the "new" songs, they are okay, especially Hardschool and Perhaps, but there were a reason they never ended up on the first Chinese democracy batch. And I really don’t get why they are releasing two new songs every two years either.

I miss a couple of new tracks written by Axl, Slash and Duff together. Likely they have not written anything together during this time either. Both Slash and Duff have done a few albums each since the reunion, so we know who is not willing to write and record new songs here. At least the box sets are quite nice, now they just need to release the complete London, Paris and Rio shows, they are in a vault somewhere

When I saw them a few years ago there were YouTube clips circulating of Axl sounding awful but he was far better in real life. Same as Bruce on most YouTube phone videos.

I'm gonna assume that I'll be happy enough with Axl this time round, too.

Plus it's all about vibe for me, a day out, a few old friends and some new ones, a lot of classic songs that we all have history with. Rock n roll, baby

Yeah I never thought he was awful in the gigs I saw, if anything he was pretty good.

Also, I'm not sure about Duff, but Slash was never much of a writer, so that might explain the lack of new material. Izzy wrote most of the classics.

Slash has lots of riff ideas but he doesn't write lyrics or completed songs.

I like gnr but axl from 2011 till now has a few full good shows but not at the moment but i have seen in this current tour a few moments of the old axl.
From 2001 to 2005 clean voice
2006 rasp
2007-2010 best version of axl you can close your eyes and hear the axl from 90s. Check bucarest 2010 show but he was great during the chinese democracy tour.
2011 rock in rio again bad and from then the reunion he sang a few songs great and many others really bad.

Now the songs are not even close to the original versions

That's the spirit. These concerts are celebrations of the music we like (or grew up with), with the people who mean something in our lives.

That being said, other than Appetite for Destruction, I find Guns N'Roses to be vastly overrated (and Axl Rose's voice insufferable most of the time).

Yah, this is how it is for me. Appetite was my gateway drug. Without this album I may have been in danger of growing up at some point.

I see you, I do, I see you. But I'm not sure about overrated.

I never hear anybody big up anything other than Appetite. Yeah, Illusion 1 & 2 have a few crackers between them but the only opinion I ever hear is that the good songs from both could be combined to make one decent album.

I've never heard support for Chinese Democracy. Better is class though.

So yeah, I think most people rate their output just right. Maybe their post Appetite albums are over bought and their gigs over attended but then that's massively on the strength of Appetite, Slash's hat and Axls tantrums. And I think that's fair.
