Guess The Iron Maiden Song!

I can't believe that we've gone this long without naming the obvious. Like, who are we kidding? There's only one name that is collectively on our minds and we should've talked about her much earlier.

Charlotte the Harlot :D

The right answer to @Jmaster clues is : The Number Of The Beast.

Deep Purple's song is "Burn" and the inspiration behind this song is a little bit confusing for many fans and many people all around the globe. Plus, Dream Theater opened for Iron Maiden in 2005 and has already covered the full album where this song is taken from.

Clue 1:
The inspiration for this Maiden song stems from a few discernible sources. However, there seems to be some confusion in the Maiden community on the exact nature of one of these influences.

Clue 2:
The song lyrics first present a direct warning, then comes a stern warning in the form of a conditional prophecy.

Clue 3:
The verses tell a singular story, which seems to expand in the chorus.

Clue 4:
The song is inspired by a sequel, and has perhaps also served as inspiration to a high-profile sequel.

Clue 5:
The song has been covered by a band that has opened for Maiden.

Clue 6:
The live debut of the song preceded the live debut of the singles from the album on which it was released.

Clue 7:
In the song lyrics you will find the name of a Deep Purple song, a vivid description of physical deformation, and a reference to the carrying out of a historically well-known method of execution.

Children of the Damned: Clues explained.

Clue 1:
The inspiration for this Maiden song stems from a few discernible sources. However, there seems to be some confusion in the Maiden community on the exact nature of one of these influences.

The 1964 film "Children of the Damned" is an obvious source of inspiration. Bruce has also cited Black Sabbath's "Children of the Sea" as an inspiration, while a few online sources (such as this site) state that "Children of the Grave" was the Sabbath source of inspiration. Musically, this makes less sense, so it's probably a mix-up.

Clue 2:
The song lyrics first present a direct warning, then comes a stern warning in the form of a conditional prophecy.

Watch his eyes burn you away/
if he had lived he would have crucified us all

Clue 3:
The verses tell a singular story, which seems to expand in the chorus.

The three firste verses are about a singe child, whereas the chorus is obviously about several children.

Clue 4:
The song is inspired by a sequel, and has perhaps also served as inspiration to a high-profile sequel.

The "Children of the Damned" film was the sequel to the 1960 film "Village of the Damned".
Maiden's "Children of the Damned" might well have inspired Metallica's "Unforgiven II", especially the intros are somewhat similar.

Clue 5:
The song has been covered by a band that has opened for Maiden.

"Lord of the Lost" released a neat cover of the song last year.

Clue 6:
The live debut of the song preceded the live debut of the singles from the album on which it was released.

Among "The Number of the Beast" songs, "Children of the Damned" was the first to be played live (along with 22 Acacia Avenue") at a show at the Rainbow Theater, London, on November 15th, 1981. "Run to the Hills" (with "The Prisoner" and "Hallowed Be Thy Name" - interestingly played fourth in the setlist) were introduced to an audience five weeks later, at the Ruskin Arms on December 23rd, 1981.

Clue 7:
In the song lyrics you will find the name of a Deep Purple song, a vivid description of physical deformation, and a reference to the carrying out of a historically well-known method of execution.

Deep Purple's "Burn", the "melting his face"-bit, crucifixion.

From the Simpsons episode "The Bloodening", which is a mock-up of the film "Children of the Damned".

Clue #2: One line in the song evokes both a flower power classic and apocalypse

Incorrect guesses: Flight of Icarus/ The Parchment/ Stratego

Public Enema Number One
Congratulations @Azas ! :)
(note to myself: I should have saved this clue for later in the game! :D )

Clue #1 represents Socrates the Greek philosopher (... not the Brazilian football player!) who committed suicide by drinking hemlock ("And the people choke with poison").
Clue #2 hints at The Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreaming" and well: "the earth dies screaming".

Your turn! :)
