but surely it is not surprising that these subgenres are more distant from our beloved (and inactive) band than some power metal acts are.

I would say that's not true for the selection of bands in this top 100, Opeth, Death and In Flames. These bands inherit more elements that Maiden brought on to the scene than either Helloween or Blind Guardian.

Btw, you know how you get Power Metal? Remodulate a Blink 182 album to minor scale, relegate vocal harmonies to guitars, insert a solo in arrangement.

Two other interesting data analysis opportunuties occurred to me.

One would be seeing which of the web site nominating lists did the best job of matching the final GMAC results.

The other is so obviously mandatory, I can’t believe it didn’t jump out at me right away. We already know the winner of the GMAC in terms of which album came out on top, but we need to know how well each MaidenFans member’s nominations performed on average so we can know which person won the GMAC! Also feel free to place bets on who the loser of the GMAC might be.

Yeah it's mostly odd balls and niche albums, but the first Led Zeppelin album is among them Whether you like Zep or not, that is an undisputed landmark album, and that korean pop album from some list is a good bit above it

We need to collectively take a long hard look in this

Might have turned out differently with Rocka Rolla, Point Of Entry, and Turbo in there, among others. And Load, Reload, and St. Anger would have been a boat anchor for Metallica’s ranking.

The funny thing about me finishing 3rd, is it felt like bar the Maiden albums very few of my nominees actually won a tie Sad Wings and Rising are probably doing a lot of heavy lifting there.
