GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Sure they're not: exactly the same mannerisms, musical profile, genre and traits releasing a record years after Nigtwish and Within Temptation. And as for who's worst I think they're all mediocre... only give more value to the original thing even if it's bad.
That's an strange view indeed. Epica and Nightwish are very different bands. Different riffing, vocals. Lyrics.

I mean, there's obviously comparisons to be drawn between Nightwish and Epica, but they're hardly clones. If anything, I'd say Nightwish has bent closer to Epica's sound in their last album, but that doesn't make them the same thing, any more than Def Leppard and Iron Maiden are the same because they were originally NWOBHM bands. This Epica album is pretty good, actually, if you like symphonic metal (which I do), and while I've never fully gotten into Epica, this one's closer than some of the other stuff. But Dance of Death has Paschendale, so you know. I'd say this is the closest I've come to voting against DOD yet.

Not getting any of the complaints against Tremonti. This is well made heavy metal. The vocalist isn't genius - ah, it is Mark Tremonti himself - but he knows how to write in his range. Yeah, I like this a lot. And while I also like Rush a lot, Counterparts is not a great Rush album. I am proud to vote for Tremonti.

I can't really believe that people bashed Andy Sneap for not being able to play after listening to him on Sabbat. This is some good thrash, from the time when thrash was still new and fresh. Amorphis is also good, and while I like this sound, Sabbat makes my head bob more aggressively.

I guess since I voted against Rush, I better vote for Rush or Justin Trudeau might come take my passport.

Not a question of validity, but soundness. I don't consider Foro's approach to be invalid. It wouldn't be invalid if he said "I'm voting the opposite of Flash because I want to annoy him", either.
I disagree with the non-acceptance of bands in this game (not with Rush being not a metal band).

Epica has Iced Earthy, sometimes thrashy/death metal influenced riffs. They have death metal drumming, grunts/screams.
Nightwish has a typical keyboard sound and style, different from other bands. The music is not as fast (totally not).

What they both have in common is a female vocalist, and they're fond of bombasm, epic orchestrations (sometimes film score kind of pieces).

It looks like Sabbat will fall a couple votes short if things continue as they are, and Tremonti might squeeze through a strong challenge.

Epica comes up short against Iron Maiden. The Dutch group is done in the GMAC, and Maiden next faces Saxon.
Tremonti unseats Rush, to advance to face Anthrax in the next round. Rush is still around.
Amorphis barely squeaks past a strong Sabbat challenge to eliminate the thrashers. Mastodon is next.
Rush holds on over The Michael Schenker Group, to eliminate his solo act. Gojira is next, which should be an interesting round indeed.

Before League 7, we have a tiebreak to resolve - Dream Theater vs. Motörhead!
